If a politician changes their mind the media claim they are flip flopping can't make a decision etc. If a politician sticks to their guns then they are out of touch with the public, don't care, feet of clay etc. On balance I would rather have a PM who changes his mind because the circumstances have altered than one who refuses to face reality. I do not as a matter of course contribute to the political discussions on HOL as my 'Raison D'Etre' for joining this cherished site was to engage in debate about our club, furthermore, away from HOL, ample time is spent by me on political discourse !! My sole political contribution on this 'Thread' is to assert that I have no recollection of ever seen a politician so regularly, so consistently, so brazenly go back on their word across so many areas of policy as Keir Starmer.I really do not like the 'Cut of his jib' On that note, I have to depart HOL for a few hours as there are local elections tomorrow and I am actively involved on behalf of my beloved party.

Again I say I do not like Starmer. There is another way of looking at his behaviour. When Corbyn was in charge Starmer had to sign up to a lot of policies he didn't agree however he decided to play along in the hope that he would get his chance which he has. All this flip flopping is him trying to put the party on a path that he believes is electable. However knowing that the party is split politically he had decided to do this gradually rather than one big leap forward. Edited by Badger11 (03 May 2023 12.02pm)

Boris Johnson has repeatedly lied and changed his mind and yet gets away with it as the press on the whole give him a free pass. No border in Northern Ireland, no additional checks, cheaper fuel and food etc. He also forced every Tory MP standing in 2019 to support Brexit. This meant the balance in the party was damaged as there was no internal opposition. Liz Truss became PM yet opposed Brexit and was also in the Lib Dems. I would say that trumps Starmer by a country mile

Do you want Starmer to promise the earth when the situation means he can't? Events, post-Truss and brexit the UK is in a very poor position. Although if he does promise the earth, then of course an election win is likely. You see people like Johnson know this, how to play the electorate and in his case get out at the right time.
