I have similar feelings.

I am actually a republican my friend is what I would call hard left but neither of us have a problem organising a tea party for our neighbours who are staunch royalists.

I actually don't care about Charles or Camilla but she deserves to be Queen I know many hate her because of Diana but that lady had plenty of flaws, move on I say.

Exactly. Rather like religious-based festivals (like Christmas), although I am not at all a believer I find it churlish to deliberately ignore what are basically social events. Also to steadfastedly boycott them is, in my book, to garner them with an underserved over-importance.

Oft repeated this week but I agree with the idea that people had tremendous respect for the Queen as a person rather than than the monarchy.

That being said, why break a 1000 year old tradition, we have a long and rich history which is important for any country.

Was there a few weeks ago, trio of pasta, the simple yet superb mortadella and 32 month parmesan and a nice bottle of lambrusco.

We then headed to Simoni charcuterie to stock up.

Watched the Leicester game in the nice cafe place opposite the station, the one with the atrium and souvenir shops. When the Mateta goal went in I was louder than us socially acceptable but they were very nice about it.

Bologna for me is so much nicer then Florence, not so busy and packed with American tour groups

Bologna is a wonderful city, i like both, more art to see in Florence, but plenty to see in Bologna and it is more compact around the Piazza Maggiore, lovely place, the Canal, the Towers and of course the Cathedral.

British history, and in particular the Monarchy, brings in incredible amounts of tourism wonga.(pre-covid)
I don't like the monarchy, but had tremendous respect for QE2.

I love Bologna.

Firstly they will kill you even if you mention spaghetti.

The cathedral overlooks the city and has giant steps you can take I remember we ran down them so happy together, half way down there was some noise and we looked over to see probably Bologna FC playing it was a Wednesday afternoon in November. At the
bottom of the steps you are right in the centre.

Everything totally delightful.

Massive train station too! 'Twas like an airport if I remember correctly, where there is a very good chance I do not!

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

i suspect that even the old 'RA heads of the Falls Road secretly liked QE2. An amicable granny type character. Certainly a lot more cuddly than Thatcher.

regarding Patriotism...... it gets complex when there is a debate about whose nation, whose country.

In Madrid, the Basques are seen as Spanish. In the Basque country, its a bit more complex.

Whatever sins Bologna has committed they are forgiven over a glass or two of grappa.

How's your reply on support for the EHRC report on anti semitism and condemnation of the Guardian cartoon coming along?

Ralph Waldo Emerson on a politician he invited to dinner.

“The louder he talked of his honor, the faster we counted our spoons.”

I think that still applied today.
