At least with the delays in starting work on a new stand the current Main Stand will be around next year for us to celebrate its 100th birthday. And to think, it was only 40 years old when I first sat in it. Thanks for depressing me! It was only 36 years old when I first sat in it!!

I use to love standing in holmesdale stand no seats, just bit off grass at back, toliet that stank, stadium to left to right was for rich people when I was younger I thought , one game in holmesdale end Millwall came charging down got in holmesdale end, think I was only 8, never forgive Millwall for that all my life

I think all prices will go up (as everything does,) but that the new seats will cost even more as they will more than likely come with facilities - as opposed to the fairly dire fare we get now. The pub analogy was simply to illustrate that if a place gets a refurb someone else has to pay. As for going somewhere else locally most boozers ) as opposed say to your cafe bar,) round here have shut. Even Spoons has departed the town.

It will be interesting to see how easily we fill our new capacity. In the'70s we could do 38k for big games and anything higher was rare.

Because, the new stand has more corporate and leisure facilities, one would imagine. It will also be more attractive to investors and perspective buyers.

If we have state-of-the art corporate facilities in the new stand, I have no doubt those will be taken up but whether the size of our "standard" support can be increased is very much open to debate. Back in those days, you didn't need to buy a ticket in advance; you could just rock up to the terraces and get in for, in relative terms, a pittance. The cost and procedures required to get a ticket to a game these days mitigates against anyone but the most committed supporter attending. That won't change when more seats are built. Football has made it difficult, rather than easy, for fans to attend games and I have to think that has impacted crowd numbers for the worse. Originally posted by Hrolf The Ganger
We do have this much mentioned huge catchment area, but will this materialize into large crowds, and if it does, will we need an even bigger stadium? People have been wheeling out the big catchment area trope for years now, but there's never really been any evidence that it translates into support. I think it's probably safe to say that around 30,000 is our natural level until there's any real evidence to the contrary.
