I may be wrong, but I don’t think Decoure has been given a yellow card since Roy’s return, whereas under PV he was collecting them almost every match. Coincidence? I don’t think so. His instructions on what is expected of him must have changed and I think he has become much more effective as a result

In the interview Roy and Steve gave Roy pointed out that midfield was our weakness and that is what they have worked on. It makes sense I think Decoure was doing his little dutch boy impression under PV desperately trying to plug holes where he could and getting frustrated. With a more settled midfield he is showing us he is not just a kick the opposition player.

My view here is that had we stood by PV,then we would in all likelihood be playing in the Championship next season, despite the outcry of the many PV, supporters among the BBC and ex Arsenal players, including Wrighty, who remain convinced that PV,would have matched Roy,had we stuck by him.
What complete and utter rubbish!!

Agreed and massively disrespectful of Roy and his achievement. We now know 37 points was enough for safety and Roy secured that in his first 4 games back in charge, arresting what was beginning to look like a terminal downward fall to the Championship.

Yes, I think that’s a very valid observation and an astute move by Roy

Personally (and I'm sure this is the case with 99% of fans). I wouldn't care if our manager was pink with blue spots, looked like Mr Blobby and had a mother who was a hamster and a father who smelled of elderberries! All I wont is to be competitive and win as much as possible.

The fact is PV (as with most fantastically gifted ex players- ie Lampard, Gerrard, Charlton the list is endless) could not relate to his players. There are exceptions, and if they manage to make the jump then they tend to be exceptional (Guardiola, Ancelotti, del Bosque). Roy has taken years to perfect this and it really shows when the chips are down. And it has been pointed out before that the previous season, the results were starting to tail off, and CG not signing probably caused us significant problems on and off the field (ie getting a solid replacement)

The fact that some of these pundits cant seem to drop the sacking (as they have with other sackings and appointments in the same period), does seem to point to an agender. They must know the rumour that it was the players that probably put the final nail in that particular coffin. There will eventually be more coloured managers of that there can be no doubt (just like there eventually became more coloured players over time). But they need to get their jobs and keep them on merit, not just because of age, creed, culture or gender. Either way I'm so glad the decision was made and we started winning again (in style). COYP

I think we may close this post after 2-2 against Fulham. Under Vieira we not only lost 0-3 at home (it could easily have been five or six), but we were outplayed like I hardly ever seen before. Yesterday some weak Mitchell defending cost us the game. And for long spells we were the better team.
Thus, based on the two Fulham games, I dear say that having Roy back is a blessing.

Roy made Wardy score. The debate is over.

I just spotted this.

Early days yet, I must admit I thought PV would have a good first season and then tail off which seems to be his modus operandi.

However it looks like he is in trouble already and as the bloke who owns Strasbourg is also the idiot who owns Chelsea he make not be given much time.

I wonder how PV would have coped with the current injury crisis we have.

I guess that is the point. Roy is a pragmatic defence minded coach so if the board will not fund a proper squad better him than PV who perhaps is better suited to a bigger club.

Not very well I suspect.

Roy isn't often exciting, but I don't think there is a manager in world football I'd rather have at the helm at present.
