I think the toughest aspect in getting a striker will be deciding what type of striker we want.

- We don't really sit back in games and play purely on the counter for a Vardy type.
- We don't have wingers and full backs that put hanging crosses in for a Benteke type.
- We don't have wingers that make runs between the centre backs in the way Son does, such that you want a striker that drops deeper like a Rooney type.

We've looked most comfortable when Ayew has put in a very battling, physical, pressure on defenders and hold the ball up type of forward. You don't need a very 'fashionable' striker if that is the brief which makes it doable.

We have to decide how we replace Zaha though. Doesn't matter if it's now or a year from now - that winger needs to suit the forward and vice versa.

We need a finisher who puts effort in and makes decent runs. Doesn’t have to be super quick or super skilful, just know how to hold the ball up, stand in the correct positions and bury it when he gets the opportunity preferably with both head and feet. A Giroux or Ings type of player.

Dominic Solanke can play with his back to goal and is adept at holding the ball up.
He is decent aerially, links the play and is a willing runner in the channels but his scoring record in the PL is none too impressive.

Then I would suggest he is not the player we are looking for. We already have two strikers who do not score a high enough percentage of their opportunities.

Being pragmatic he's the sort of player we should be after.

Prem scoring record isnt great, but he's in a team that doesn't create much. He works hard and is a handful.

Alas, they have survived, so I'd suspect they wouldnt want ot lose him

I keep saying this, we can't afford a top striker so I would rather have 2 hard working ones that maybe get 10 goals a season each. This is my criticism of JPM and EO they simply don't do enough for the team.

Prior to the start of this season, Solanke signed a contract extension to 2026.

Agree. We need a 'fox-in-the-box' type of player. someone who is a nuisance in a crowded box, and always appears to be in the right place at the right time. We are playing Edouard at them moment - who doesn't appear to help the build up play too much - so we don't need someone to do that. We need someone to put away the chances we create.

I think Nketiah would be perfect for us. I know we’ve tried to sign him twice already but he must know he never going to be first choice at Arsenal.

I would say that is Arsenal's bargaining chip in getting Guehi.

My issue is that Nketiah has had the opportunity to come here before and never seemed keen.

Good Call, he is the Vardy style of player who can stretch the play, Nketiah, Nelson plus 40m for Guehi,

The problem with that is simply that Geuhi is such a good player, who we'd have to replace?

Akpom might be more on the cards as Borough didn't make it.
