I no more what you suggest than I want it run by a bunch of priests.

I want each country run by the people for the people, using free and fair elections to select who the people are.

Once done I also think that cooperation between countries to solve the big global issues is essential. No one country can deal with these things alone so we need forums and informed thinking.

Cooperation is a great deal more preferable to confrontation, which is the way these things used to be sorted out.

When did all this international cooperation happen in the last few thousand years? Presumably between wars and invasions?

Whilst many skilled healthcare professionals are immigrants , equally there are low-skilled un-skilled healthcare workers who are working on, or about, minimum wage. It could be argued they present a bigger risk to patients because of language difficulties. But hey, they are cheap and available, and like teaching and policing, the entrance exams have been made a little easier to aid recruitment when there are staffing shortages.

The ideal would be to have a system in place that ensured that we didn't require as such core healthcare workers from elsewhere to begin with. Not to say that it shouldn't be an option to recruit that way as it likely is elsewhere too, but when it becomes a reliance something has clearly gone wrong.

We should also consider that those from less well off nations are often valued within their own communities and we're essentially poaching them. It's a tricky balance of course as it pays not to be an absolutist on anything, and we should always appreciate those who are there for us in time of medical need. I don't think lurching government policy and bureaucracy over the years has done much to help matters either.

Sorry to hear about your wife beign stressed. It pays to appreciate those who are there for others, and with the healthcare system as it currently is, I can certainly understand why the relentless nature and daily reality of that could be a lot to deal with for a person.

I imagine having to come home to you would do that.

From the left, the Hitler comparisons can become rather cliche and throwaway as it demeans what was a horrific time and event. On the other hand some on the far right do indeed still fully embrace what Hitler believed and stood for. They are routinely given a free pass by other far and dissident right types and their ilk who often choose to ignore such traits and all that naturally comes with such a warped mindset. Neither position is ideal, though saying 'you're Hitler' on repeat I would argue is more 'noise', whereas being near the gravitational pull of the kind of dehumanisation that the man presided over is clearly more disturbing. At least to most.

That's the sort of thing they would say in Stalin's USSR!

As for the wider point, it wasn't addressed to me....and to be fair I've addressed these points many times.

You obviously have as much right as anyone else does to post comments. That though wasn't the point! It was the "inappropriateness" of the comment and the fact that the actual point was ignored and replaced by another bout of manufactured upset.

I haven't noticed you being called a "neo-Nazi" here but if you have perhaps instead of getting "pissed off" you should wonder why anyone thinks you are?

No, when communication and travel became easier and quicker and the insanity of wars became clear to most.

Back in the 60s there was a chap I worked with who was an active member of the National Front. His politics could be summarised as "Hitler was right. He keep what could only be described as a shrine to Hitler in his house. The kind of things he said back then can still be heard to day, only not so directly.

We didn't, and wouldn't if we rejoined, stop being an independent sovereign nation as a consequence of being a member of the EU.

The EU is the embodiment of subsidiarity and cooperation into our politics. It's not the replacement of it.

Hardly, as it was to me that she poured her heart out when I picked her up after her shift.
