We didn't, and wouldn't if we rejoined, stop being an independent sovereign nation as a consequence of being a member of the EU.

The EU is the embodiment of subsidiarity and cooperation into our politics. It's not the replacement of it.

So we could rejoin and use our sovereignty to opt out of free movement of people and any EU regulations and laws that we do not like?

So never then.

“They’ve lost control of the economy. They’ve lost control of public services, and now they’ve lost control of immigration.

Starmer is correct, but he suffers the brexit delusion just like the other politicians.

The tories introduced the immigration model we know in the early 1960s, they are the natural party of out of control immigration.

The people you see rant on from the right including here, actually support them unto their dying breath.

If someone did get a grip, they would have a collective fit, their whole reason for living would be gone.

13 years ago there was a miniscule asylum issue, some concern as there always is about migration.

However The tories have succeeded in turning a problem into a disaster, they are not in control of anything post-brexit as they pretend and the figures show that.

It's good to see that the UK government can still attract huge investment from under the noses of the EU after Brexit.

Doom-mongers must be a bit peeved.

What the terms would be is unknown but I expect there to be some more compromises than the offer made prior to 2016. Free movement of people within the EU was always a benefit in my eyes and now we have seen the consequences of current immigration perhaps more Brexiteers realise that too.

You don't think communications and travel are now easier?

Being prepared to defend yourself isn't the same as waging war.

Nothing is perfect but having institutions able to allow people to talk, or restrain aggression because of their size, is better than not having them.

As only the hard right and those to their right think that way there is nothing to wonder about.

For such people, anyone who is in the centre, like myself, is to their left. No closet needed. I am a centrist.

So you are seriously suggesting that there is a possibility that we could rejoin and use our sovereignty to opt out of free movement of people and any EU regulations and laws that we do not like?

What's that? Can't hear you, sounds a bit muffled.

To be serious though, you certainly aren't in the sensible centre. Your views on immigration, the grooming gangs, wanting to punish people during lockdowns, supporting unelected EU officials....doesn't seem like the centre to me.

That's not how many on here would describe you.

I don't see myself as anything other than a realist. I'm not interested in adhering to any political position.

It means that I can have a genuine opinion instead of being hamstrung by loyalty to a particular ideology.

Are you looking forward to the immigration figures tomorrow?

Perhaps it will be an eye opener for those with eyes.

Are you really so sure you're in the 'centre' Wisbech?
