Being prepared to defend yourself isn't the same as waging war.

Nothing is perfect but having institutions able to allow people to talk, or restrain aggression because of their size, is better than not having them.

Not denying that but the post-A bomb world wasn't a particular era of peace, love and understanding.

The UN, the largest organisation since the end of WW2 to facilitate talk and avoid war has been a tremendous success.

Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance.

Nor is today's but imagine how much worse it might be without any efforts to establish forums and institutions designed to mitigate and encourage cooperation.

Compared to not having a UN it has been. Compared to a perfect UN it hasn't.

Problems with institutions can be worked on and improved, but you first need the institution.

It is not better to have a consistently bad thing in the hope it will magically get better one day.

You have no idea what would have happened without the UN so that's a silly comment.

We should use the money spent on numerous forums and institutions on the armed forces, that would do more to avoid war.

Apart from Korea, Vietnam, The Gulf Wars, Aden, Suez, assorted African and Middle East conflicts and the current Ukraine situation it's been a great success.

The UN cannot make you good, obviously.

But I wouldn't like to be without it.

I like its work in feeding and providing access and help to the third world. Not the social engineering, but the practical humanitarian help is very important and something everyone can be proud of.

As for anything else....errr.

Marvellous, but what has that to do with the EU?

No it wouldn’t. It would create more wars.

I am sure someone has produced a trend analysis which demonstrates whether the incidence is increasing or declining.
