Zaha hit the peak a few years ago and for me, this would be a waste of money. Also the impact paying that kind of salary has on rest of team- before you know it our wage bill skyrockets for no increased capability.

Whilst I don't disagree, its an obscene amount of money. Wilf is our Messi, we cant use that 200k to go and buy another one.

I 100% with The Dolphin, If I'd woken up and he'd signed I'd be happy.

I'd also have let JT go and gambled with only 3 CB's to save some cash there

I wouldn't. We have been in trouble before with injuries and that was with 4 CBs.

O'Brien, Balmer, Richards all or one or two might be able to do the job. In my own opinion, Richards is fine. O'Brien could certainly cover and Balmer could get the odd cup minutes.

O’ Brian, in particular must be close to coming into the frame, two successful loans, and followers in the Championship. Possibly a Championship loan with an instant recall clause might put the polish on him.
Outside of that is the preseason and possibly he could stand out and make his case before the new season. Whatever way it goes it must be close to make your mind up time for club and player.

It will cost more than double that in purchase money and wages to get anyone even close to what he gives us.

Will it? Olise cost and salary over the first four years of his time here will be less than £40m, he will give us more than Wilf does and have a massive sell on value. And he doesn't moan as much

Exactly. All this thinking that we can't compete without Zaha needs to stop. We showed quite clearly in the last ten games (most of which Zaha missed) that we can gain points without him. Yes, he can still have moments when he excites the crowd but those moments are becoming rarer. His single goal since the World cup was that virtual tap in in the win over West Ham. Can't recall his other contributions to the goals we scored since the World Cup. There may have been one or possibly two but they don't stand out for me.

I'm not saying you wouldn't be FYI, nor am I saying Wilf definitely lives that way, but that life is accessible to him and has been since he was young and dumb enough to make immature decisions, so maybe he doesn't have 45m sitting in a secure well invested account.

I dont think Wilf "always+ had that kind of money.
He grew up in the academy remember.

I'm just not sure that we need a 4th choice CB, that is unlikely to play any minutes on 50k a week. (presuming he re-signs for current wage).

Would much rather O'Brien, or Ward step in if needed. We need a bench of relatively cheap youth with potential. Not old, expensive injury prone guys.

No chance he would get the same wages.

I want him at Palace - he will do way more good than bad both on and off the pitch.

It will cost more than double that in purchase money and wages to get anyone even close to what he gives us.

Eze reportedly cost us £18M and Olise £9M. That £27M investment is now worth Circa £80M in potential transfer fees alone….maybe more. This whole idea that it’s too costly to replace Wilf and we should pay him an obscene amount of money in wages is absolutely ludicrous.

It would be madness by the club if they are considering a 4 year contract based on his age. He will steadily lose pace over the seasons and would probably struggle to be in the team in the final seasons. 2 years too long in my opinion. The wages are probably less of an issue in that case. If he or whoever is insistent on a 4 year contract then I think he has played his last game for us. Great player and a Palace legend in my book. COYP !!

No shortage of potential interest in Wilf.
The list of clubs gets longer and longer.
They obviously can spot a bargain.
