No rush for new BLACK deal - Jordan

TOMMY BLACK has been told that he must keep playing well for the rest of the season to get the right for a new contract.

BLACK has scored nine goals in as many games for the Eagles this season and is keen for a new deal as his contract expires in the summer.

He could leave for a nominal fee because of his age but Simon Jordan wants him to really earn it.

Jordan said: "We're not under a gun. TOMMY's been playing well for the last five weeks, but we don't need to rush into anything.

"He has made progress, but I would like to see that progress continue. It's healthy he's playing for a new contract.

"Maybe his performances merit a better deal, but given he's already relatively well-paid and he signed his contract in an inflated market when the ITV Digital money was available, we have to ask whether the climate merits it at the moment."

BLACK had recently said he wanted to end his career at Palace. But he told the Evening Standard: "We've not started talking yet but it's something I'd like to get settled. It's getting closer to the end of the season and I'd like it sorted out sooner rather than later.

"If a big club do come in for me and it's good for Palace, then maybe it would be time to move on. Every footballer at this club wants to play in the Premiership and I'm no different.

"Of course I'd listen to offers, but it's up to the club. If they get an offer they can't refuse, then I'd have to look elsewhere. I want to play at the highest level possible and do the best I can."
