With Cahill, Dann, Sakho and possibly PVA all out of the weekend's game, who is likely to make up the backline for the time being? I suspect the regular first team backups will get their chance, but could we see some of the youngsters on the bench or getting a chance to have their own Wan-Bissaka moment? I'm pretty certain there will be new signings in January though. Even if the owners are looking to sell, they'll see that Europe is genuinely within reach at this stage of the season and would be insane not to give Roy a chance to achieve that.

Kouyate has played at centre back for all his major clubs and his country as well.

Apparently yesterday's game came too soon for Cahill to return, so I expect our backline to be (r to l) Kelly, Tomkins, Cahill, Schlupp. If Cahill isn't back I would expect to see Kelly moved into the middle and the young lad who played in the cup and wore the eye mask thingy to play at RB, Sam Woods?

Kouyate was immense last night. I’ve no issue with him playing 90 mins at CB if necessary, but sounds like Cahill will be back anyway. We’re fortunate to have some genuine utility players in Kelly and Schlupp. Red card decision btw was a howler. Surely VAR is meant to prevent those? Surely we’ll appeal that and have Sakho back as well?

Kelly has given us balance at right back and has not let us down. Play Ayew anywhere, he didn't stop running last night.

I'd imagine kelly will stay at RB with Tomkins and one of Cahill (if fit) or Kouyate with Schlupp LB. It's not a great situation but I thought Kouyate was absolutely immense last night. Kouyate got to the final of the African Cup of Nations with Senegal playing at CB and he looked absolutely comfortable there last night. I have to admit I thought Bournemouth were very poor and before the red card thought we'd be comfortable in that match but even so I am not as worried now as perhaps I would have been after that performance.
Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!! |

i think Sclupp is better than PVA, Kouyate better than Sakho, Kelly 50/50 with Ward so not major problems, it would be different it Wilf, Ayew and Townie picked up injuries, Long term I think Kouyate will be centre back all the time
