You get these yoyo teams, especially between championship and league one, and if they had their own mini league with a one up one down system it would save a lot of stress for other clubs, so if Peterboro, Rotherham, Wycombe and Wigan could play a round robin all the way through the season, to replaced by either Blackpool or Barnsley depending on what division they're in it would save an awful lot of time with theses clubs never lasting two years in either division getting in the other teams' way. I thought about this for the prem and champ but they're aren't enough clubs, you'd just have Norwich and Watford playing each other 40 odd times a season and occasionally one of them would be replaced by West Brom. Thoughts?

Thoughts? I'm not even sure I fully understand the system you are proposing ex however I think the notion interesting. We would be straying somewhat into American sporting territory with ludicrous amounts of 'play-offs' and separate leagues etc however I have often been open to the thought of a play off, certainly between the PL and Champ., that sees teams in the relegation zone of prem playing those in the play-off positions in the Champ. I'd just have one team go down and one up automatically in that situation. Somebody with better insight and perhaps expertise may be able to offer insight into the financial ramifications of that however with so much money in football but particularly the Prem. these days and whether that would be good/bad or cause further disparity etc. TBH I am inclined to believe any of these proposals are driven primarily by ire for the teams that are a bit like the fly that never quite comes into or leaves your house, constantly buzzing around the window, than an objective plan considerate of the entire membership of the football league. Worthy of some musing however!

It wasn't a serious proposal, but thank you for being gentle with me, it's just that Wigan and Peterboro could well swap places this year, with Wycombe and Rotherham doing the same the year after and so on for ever.

The issue with The Premier League now is that with a rich/big six/seven, that's fourteen games lower teams won't get much from. Leaves us with a two tier Premier League - which is showing with the bottom half of the table. Clubs can aspire to be the usurper for maybe a season or two - as Brentford and Brighton are currently. It's not wonderfully sustainable however, as lower teams need to spend more and more, whilst big clubs stockpile talent.

Seems the ambition for most now is to either gatecrash a European place, which is highly unlikely to be the Champions League, or be taken over by a lunatic or consortium looking to emulate City, Chelsea, Newcastle et al. Makes 12th place look all the more heroic for now
