Exactly, Given the cash it would probably cost I'd rather we concentrated on getting Sakho through the door if at all possible

I stand corrected. You are so right to point Sakho out as far greater priority. (Happy to eat humble pie again)

I honestly am not sure whether a striker is our biggest need right now as, injuries permitting, we have some class in the wings. And even then, I'd prefer someone like Defoe.

Fraizer Campbell's contract is up so he is likely to go, Remy was only a loan which probably won't be renewed so that only leaves Benteke and Wickham in the striker department.

With our poor injury record we definitely need another Premier League class body in the squad

I would say that we need a couple more upfront, we also need a new goalkeeper, serious work on the defence and someone to share the burden with Puncheon. If we manage to keep the players we have then we need to buy another 3 or 4 in order to add quality on the pitch and perhaps 3 or 4 cheaper options to add quality in depth.

If we can do all that, pay enough to keep Zaha etc., and afford the sort of money that Batshuayi would take then that would be great. Incidentally, has Batshuayi and Benteke played in the Belgium team much together? Or are they both vying for the same place alongside Lukaku. I could look it up, but I can't be bothered as I don't think it will happen.

I would like to think that Sam's network, and his experience of the transfer market might get us a few unknown diamonds in, alongside a couple of decent signings from the relegated clubs. So hopefully we don't have to be putting all our eggs in a £30 million+ shaped basket this summer.

I should also add that Sakho would not be in this bracket in my opinion. Sakho seems to raise the quality of the defence by £10 million a man. £30 million on Sakho would be money well spent.

Don't think it would fit into our budget to have both Benteke and Batshuayi in the squad (and possibly one of them on the bench). Even though I very much like Batshuayi, I think we're better of with Benteke.

For your information: the two normally don't play together for Belgium. Usually, we only play with one real striker (with picking order 1. Lukaku 2. Benteke 3. Batshuayi)?

Fully agree on Sakho: he's the one we really need to sign.

Said in the paper today he might be sent out on loan, especially if Chelsea sign Lukaku. West Ham apparently interested, didn't mention us but we were in for him in the summer so it wouldn't surprise me if we went back for a loan.

Yep, we were one knock to Beneteke away from having to play Campbell for 90 mins.

Thanks BE. I kind of expected as much. I just don't think that it will be viable to spend all that budget on someone to play second fiddle to Benteke. Even on loan it will be too much to pay for someone to sit on the bench. Would love him to play at Palace but we need to spend wisely this summer. The depth of the squad is moost important.

A replacement for Remy, and a cheaper cover for Benteke has got to be the aim.
