Do you think the jury got it wrong... if so why? What do you know that they don’t? What evidence have you been privy to that they haven’t?

Clearly, two people reacted differently to the situation, Yanez and his partner. One saw no threat and never pulled his gun, the other perceived a threat and shot someone. The standard of an officer in that jurisdiction is that deadly force can be used "when necessary to protect the peace officer or another from apparent death or great bodily harm".

This is why the jury acquitted, because the standard under the law is too loose. It's also why Yanez was fired and his employer paid out mm in compensation. What he did may have been legally not a crime, but it wasn't right.

Hence the spotlight now on police killings of unarmed black men - and now a white man in Shaver. The issue is a combination of loose statutes, poor training / recruiting and an environment where guns are prevalent.

It’s not about defending the cop. It’s about understanding how it happened. If you see the video... you see the kid make a move to his waistband. The report the police were responding to was someone pointing a rifle out the window of a hotel... like that nut job did at that concert. That’s what they thought they could be dealing with. Then the kid moves his hand to his waistband (after being told he’d be shot if he moved his hands) and the copper shot him.

Much of the dialogue that apparently led up to it was completely unprofessional, sadistic and came across like they were looking to shoot this man.. which of course is what eventually happened. The guy couldn't have made himself less of a threat really, and it was dragged on and on almost looking for him to f*** up. You've just lurched too far in the direction of backing up the police probably due to to the current perceived 'anti' police movements. It's a shame. This should not have happened and I'm not going to blame a guy begging not to be shot for it.

Nobody with any sense would be defending what this cop did to this poor man. It's sad that in response to 'cops are bad' crap, some swing to the complete opposite and defend sickening behaviour of a sadist in uniform.

Stop replying to him then.

The city was worried about riots. Settled up before the trial. Makes any subsequent trial very difficult.

Sorry to derail your agenda, but Yanez wasn't fired and the settlement wasn't made until after the verdict.

Chronology:

June 16: Yanez acquitted
June 16: (later in the day) Yanez fired

"The public will be best served if Officer Yanez is no longer a police officer in our city'"

June 20: dashcam footage released to the public
June 21: additional video footage from other cameras released
June 26: settlement announced

I’ll say it until I’m blue in the face. The problem isn’t a copper shooting a bloke who doesn’t comply. Because without the gun culture in America... cops won’t be so quick to shoot.
I was in America recently, cops say... I’d rather be judged by 12, than carried by 6.

America is f***ed. Trump is the symptom of a fed up population.
It should be rich vs poor. Not black vs White.

BLM wanted “black only” days on college campuses out there... they said they wanted a safe space from violent pupils... maybe they should look at the black on black crime figures... they’d realise that black only days are stupid/racist and statistically speaking... not a safe space

Just making the statement that compo and guilt have no connection

Why would you not debate issues with someone? It’s what adults do.

Here's what Yanez' partner said at trial about how he deals with armed citizens:

Kauser also testified that he tells drivers who notify him about a firearm or permit to carry to keep their hands visible, usually by placing them on the steering wheel, and then asks them to disclose the location of the firearm in the vehicle.

There. Calm, precise, executable orders. Not screamed, conflicting orders while jamming a gun through the car window.

Yanez claimed at trial to have seen Castile's hand on the hilt of the gun. This was an evolving position, from the scene when he said had no idea where it was - it fell out of Castile's pocket during CPR, and Yanez would've known it was there if he'd seen it - to claiming he'd seen the gun barrel when giving a statement to investigating officers the next day, to what he said at the trial.

Chicken and egg. Guns are here, cops know that, they should be able to interact with armed citizens without shooting them. The recent, seemingly endless incidents of police shooting unarmed citizens goes to show that police are currently inadequately trained, recruited and constrained for such encounters.

Your hard on for BLM is something else.
