Riedewald seems like a defensive liability. On Newcastle's goal, he made sure to get out of the way of the strike. At least he made up for it. I've defended Bats before, but he was offsides by 3 yards on a great scoring chance. Ridiculous. I'm still trying to figure out what the F we were doing in the first half. It was like Luka was dropping back into the back 4 to pick the ball up from them. But...Luka??? Of all people? Roy is expecting Luka to carry the ball upfield??? PVA was being played way up the field. I don't get it. PVA is the only one of the back 4 capable of getting the ball up to midfield, and he was playing way out in space while Luka's job was to be the playmaking passer? It was so ridiculous, I couldn't believe what I was seeing. Can anyone explain what that was all about?

He was the only one who closed shelvey down for their goal so I've got no idea what you mean by jump out of the way, he didn't get there in time thats all. Bats doesn't know the offside rule, the chance when the ball ended up with pva was the worst when he was stood offside by the half way line. Luka dropping closer to the cbs is a common thing most teams do, he had a better game passing forwards than usual. He's expected to pass it out of our half not carry it. I actually think pva is only any good in the final 3rd, terrible at defending but is one of our best for putting the ball across goal. Clyne was in the same position several times aswell.

Just one of those wins that taste like sweet strawberries. A goal down early and outplayed for most of the match except for 10 minutes in the first half.

Riedewald had a great game, he adds composure to our midfield. Milo was decent today with some nice through the lines passing but he's far from the form he had when he first joined, him and MacArthur. Riedewald is my first choice CM. Ayew was excellent with his effort, the amount of free kicks he wins cannot be underestimated, whether its in the final third or defensively its a huge help to the team and something we've missed. Bats out with Benteke or Mateta replacing him. Glad to see Dann and Cahill fit again but I think its unfair on Kouyate the stick he's got recently, he done a massive job for us in the first half of the season when we had no available CBs. Hopefully he can get minutes in his preferred position. Eze just oozes class, his ability to just glide passed players is great to watch. I'm not so worried Wilfs out now Eze is gaining some form. Roy should play him as second striker (Wilfs role) and have Townsend on the left doing the tracking back.

I find it unbelievable that people think Jairo makes Luka a better player and people even criticise Luka for his recent performances. Luka has been one of our best players recently and it certainly isn’t down to Jairo. He has to do double the work when he is beside him.

You obviously don’t like Jairo, your perogative but this constant bashing of him after every game is uncalled for imo

As for being slow around the pitch, of course he is not like Wilf or Eze but he gets up and down sufficiently., not every player needs to be quick. Was Hoddle fast around the pitch? I don’t think so Edited by Spiderman (03 Feb 2021 7.38am)

Although I agree Luka does come in for some unfair critiscism, I don't know how you can give Jairo stick. I've seen him give the ball away ONCE in last 3 games and that was last night when he was trying to pass a high bouncing ball.
