Could you honestly see Roy doing what Leicester done on Saturday and stick in a 19 year old in the cup final, or what Sheff Utd did yesterday by playing a 17 year old up front ? I read somewhere today in one of those 'News Now' features, he was trying to justify having three goalkeepers in yesterday's squad, and saying that he could have put one of the U23's on the bench but it was pointless as they wouldn't have played no matter what.

Unfortunately sometimes the grass isn’t greener on the other side .. remember a certain F de Boer.... he tried to change things immediately and it simply doesn’t work...yes I totally agree about the younger players , they should be given a chance but perhaps a more cautious approach with Sean Dyche would be a safer option if indeed Roy does go....

Tragic post .. big Sam bought JS , Pva and Luka in 17 , 4 years later they are regular prem first team players with relatively little outlay .. Pva I would say is off, JS is actually missed when not playing and Luka may be past his best but he cost 6m, so we real value tbh. Roy didn’t spend big on Tekkers or Sakho .. in fact the only real purchases have been Sorloth (some how we hoodwinked RBL into 20m) and Eze last season who will seem a bargain at 20 mill or so. Roy’s remit is to keep us in the PL that’s it , it’s about hard cash .. ask any Sunderland, Portsmouth etc etc if they would like to be bored with PL football or stuck in Div 1 for years. Unless there is big investment in the team then Roy will stick with what he has as it works and that’s the job he’s given by our board. So yes it’s hard to watch but until we get 37-40 points on the board we will predominately play the percentages and win ten against the bottom ten and pick up a few points against the top 6 .. winning at old Trafford etc. Every team in from 10th place down is in exactly the same position ..

As to your question, yes I can. He did it with Dreher a couple of seasons back, so if the youngster is deemed ready, Hodgson will play him IMO. Edited by doombear (17 May 2021 7.36pm)

Edited by doombear (17 May 2021 7.36pm) Surely one could make a case for a youngster showing his potential once he is in the first team. Would AWB have been put on the field otherwise if we weren't rife with injuries or Mitchell ? I sometimes feel that giving a youngster the limelight sometimes prompts them into showing what ability they have and some will be up to standard and some won't. What i dont understand is the reluctance to try 1 or 2 in the last 10 mins when he usually feels is the right time for a sub. Especially now we are safe it would be nice to see a couple of the upcoming talents. I mean they have shown the possess some great qualities in their respective divisions in U18 and U23.

Don’t forget in your analysis the reason why Roy has played the same players over and over again. Schlupp has been injured for the majority of the season. We have Ward has basically our only fit right back all year. There have been times over the last couple of years when we have no fit striker at the club. Howe or Lampard wouldn’t know where to start with these problems. It is very easy to pick one game against Villa and say look what we can do. Have a look back through our starting 11’s and subs bench for the last couple of years and it may change your mind.
This will only confuse him.

This really does get tedious, if Roy thought we had youngsters good enough to play he would pick them. Why on earth would he do otherwise? He has his favourites yadda yadda yadda, he sees the players in training unlike any of us, and surprisingly he picks the players he thinks are best suited to win the game.

You have hit the nail on the head. The lower divisions are littered with former premier teams that would give their right arm to swap places.

Is it not quite feasible that our manager hasn't the option to try these youngsters, he is answerable to his actions the same as any employer, nobody really has any clue what happens behind the scenes.

Sadly too many.
