I thought that Tony Collins played for Torquay United before he joined Palace. I've a vague memory of him playing in a blue and yellow shirt versus the Palace way back in the distant past, the first black footballer I ever saw I think.
I can only remember 1 black kid being at Heath Clark secondary school as well, Marais was his surname. How demographics have changed in 50 years

How are you Pete? Went back home in August and saw the folks. Took my girl to the Palace. We lost. Told her it was an authentic Palace experience

I have fond memories of Tony Collins. He was quite a character who visibly enjoyed his football. He was very tricky down the left wing and he had this habit of doing a little jig after beating the full back. The crowd loved him.

I do hope he's alive and well at the age of 84.
