On twitter (X), a few people seem to have started a movement for the board to step down, sell up or whatever you want to call it. I was curious, at what point will enough be enough for you personally? I am nowhere near that stage yet, but some arguments they present have validity.

I respect the fact that we have been in the Premier League for as long as we have. It's no mean achievement. However under the current Board, staying up is the limit of our ambition with little sign of it changing. My perception of the Board is that it's not joined up in it's way of thinking. And an inability or reluctance to invest any further than absolutely necessary. I think the ' moment of truth ' for me will be next summer, when we assumably be looking to appoint Roy's successor. So like you I'm not at the selling up stage yet, but I feel like that's my direction of travel.

On what basis is this movement, asking the board to step down? They have been the most successful in our history! Unless these Twitter morons have a better financial business plan, if they know what that is. I suggest they get on with their homework.

I get fans frustration but how exactly does sack the board work? Both Mike Ashley and The Glaziers have withstood years of fan protests which they ignored. Ashley sold when he got the right offer (for him) and no doubt the same applies to the Glaziers. Charlton fans have been protesting at their different owners for years and seem to get new ones more toxic than the previous, the jury is out on the latest group. I have no doubt that if a wealthy owner came in for Palace some or all of the board would sell. According to Parish he gets offers on a regular basis but these are shysters who don't have any money of their own and wants to use the club's money ala The Glaziers. Well unlike some other owners who take the money and run Parish hasn't thank god. Until a responsible owners with deep pockets turns up there's not a lot we can do.

It does seem that unless we get owners more willing to invest that we won't take steps forward. More likely, remain as we are. We're not bad but games like tomorrow show we needed more investment in the side. There were glaring gaps in the squad that everyone except the board could clearly see. It seems all the more frustrating when there were low transfer fees for players who would have helped us more, for instance, than Henderson will. The other elephant in the room is the Main Stand. I was thinking to myself this morning that at least the club is for sale with Planning permission for improvement. A bit like selling a house with planning permission for development already approved. Hopefully more appealing to potential buyers. Our other issue is the multitude of owners. Any potential buyer has to negotiate with several people. I'm pretty sure most other clubs have simpler ownership models. I wonder if this is why other clubs get bought but we don't? I couldn't say for sure, just a feeling.

Charlton's decline started when their fans got all "sack the boardy" when mid table wasn't good enough for them. Now look. And where are Leicester at the moment? And others that got into Europe? Because that's really what moving on means isn't it? The only next level we've got is Europe. Don't get me wrong, I'd love a season - just one season - where we qualify for Europe so that I can get stabbed in the buttocks, mugged, baton charged by the local police, and everything else that creates the magic of being in Europe so that my years of following Palace reach fulfillment, but I'd be very worried that if we got the wrong owners in I'd end my days being stabbed in the buttocks, mugged and baton charged by the local police in Grimsby instead.
Living down here does have some advantages. At least you can see them cry. |
