If we can bring in another right midfielder/winger to challenge Andros then suddenly this looks like potentially being one of our best windows ever (especially if we do keep Wilf) There is a rumour (fingers crossed it's true) that we have approached. QPR for Bright Osayi Samuel. If we manage to sign him, we have wide player cover and competition for Townsend

They paid £33m for him and they’re not going to make a massive loss on him- if he comes back and gets 15+ (based on his last loan that’s very possible) then Chelsea are probably going to want in the region of £30m+ for him. That’s a lot for us, but with proven quality, 26 years of age and 10+ goals per season, I think it’s worth serious consideration. Lots of ‘ifs and buts’ though..,
I have to say I wasn't impressed with any of our youngsters in the defeat against Brentford B today (only saw first half but I suspect 2nd wouldn't have been any better judging by the report on our site.) Edited by doombear (08 Sep 2020 4.21pm)

Its a 12 month loan with a £20m deal for the following season Chelsea have helped Palace out as we get striker that we wanted now but Chelsea extend his contract so they still get the fee next season as Palace could not do this under the current budget due to FFP unless Zaha got sold which is looking very unlikely. Fantastic business alround for Palace turning out to be a great window. Thats a fantastic deal, if it’s only an option to buy, then we get a good look at the goods,. He fitted in really well last time, and our players are those he already knows, plus an exciting young prospect in Eze,.So there has to be a good chance it will work out. If a fee has been agreed no problem .

Hope this works but have a feeling Gallagher would have been a better bet as we totally lack creativity other than Zaha - who pretty much has to stay now Ayew on the wing is likely to be much more ineffective as he was basically just a finisher for us last year - abeit a very welcome one

Would have been nice to have Batshuayi and Gallagher but we have other options in midfield and we don't upfront. If we have indeed agreed a £20 million fee in 12 months, if we stay up, it's a (comparative) bargain if he is able to score 10+ goals a season. If we can stop getting so many injuries then I think we will be ok this season and hopefully more enjoyable to watch. Possibly in person occasionally. Looking forward to the start of the season.
It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses. |

Was underwhelmed with Batman, last day hat trick saved his stats, luxury player who doesn't want to challenge and runs around even less than Benteke. Happy to be proved wrong.

On reflection £20m isn't bad in this market. It will be interesting to see what the market looks like in 12 months when the impact of Covid on club finances will become more apparent. £20m may well look expensive then, especially if TV deals end up being reduced and further Covid spikes lead to fewer games with spectators present. I think some clubs have overpaid in this window. I'm glad we haven't been one of them.
