Yeah agreed I found that very very telling too.

IMO expect this will be Wilfs best and most likely last season for us.

Yep, and when he does go (Jan?) then it will be with our blessings ... I would love it though, love it (channelling Keegan) .. if he helped us win a FA / league cup or got us to 6th !

Well it’s great to have Wilf here still.
Never in doubt in my mind.... however, I am pretty shocked and parish’s interview on SSN just now. When asked about Wilf, he said “it’s great to still have him here he’s important to the club, but we understand he is world class and everyone wants to get to the top of their profession but wasn’t the right time”

Maybe there was some truth when they were reporting about him wanting to leave.....

Either way great to still have him, well done parish.

I think we will be extremely lucky to have him here this time next year.

A professional footballer who is good enough to play at the top level, wants to play at the top level, what's shocking about that ? Id be more shocked if he didn't and would question his lack of ambition.

Recently said his wish was to get Palace into Europe . That's a pretty big ambition

Think we've squeezed as much as we can out of wilf keeping him this season and we can't really have any complaints, how far we've came from his debut to now, the amount his gave our club, the pleasure it's been watching him. The club knows it's his last season So no excuses plenty of time to plan life without him, let's not take him for granted and whatever happens this season let's appreciate the lad cause the chances of seeing another zaha in our lifetime is pretty slim. If he can fire us into Europe what a way to say goodbye.

I really think Man U will implode this year. Like Chelsea did when the players had had enough of Mourinho. The man is a cock.

I also think Chelsea, Arsenal and Spurs could all either be brilliant or go a bit wrong. Spurs could have a bad start due to a relatively thin squad, most of which was at the world cup. Arsenal and Spurs have new managers who could go either way.

What, you are wondering, has this got to do with Palace & Wilf. I'll come to that.

There are loads of clubs that could push on...West Ham have spent absurd money and have a manager with a good record of handling those kinds of players. Everton under their new manager could really break their own mould.

But there's always a team that surprises in how good it is. And I really think it could be us, albeit with some significant 'ifs'.

If 1: Wilf becomes everything he can become. We have, in my opinion, a player in Wilf who could well become the best in the prem. Better than all those Man City boys, better than Salah, better than the lot. I just do and I don't care that I'm probably alone in that. There's something in his mentality.

If 2: Benteke fires. He's a brute. He could and should be getting loads of headers, especially off set pieces. If Wilf becomes as good as I believe he can be, then Benteke will get more space & chances.

If 3: Injuries. Every club needs luck with injuries and we're no different. We'd naturally suffer more than a big club from a lot of injiries. But out first 11 can be extraordinary.

Which leads me to what all this has to do with Wilf and his career.

I think that if the above ifs happen, and if we get a few bigger clubs doing disastrously, 4th is on.

And if, just if, 4th is on maybe we could satisfy Wilf's desire for success/Champions league football ourselves.

If you want to live in a world full of kindness, respect and love, try to show these qualities.

That's probably the only way we will keep hold of him but that's a massive ask. I can see one team dropping away but not 3. The thing with man u, they only really need Sanchez to turn up, we seen how he carried arsenal and he can win games on his own. Chelsea, their manager is highly rated and i think once they get going they will be alright but arsenal I do look at their team and if you take their strikers out they're a bang average team who could struggle. I can definitely see someone else breaking into the top 6 this year.0

true about Sanchez but look at the quality of the Chelsea team that got Mourinho fired. pogba could agitate, a few strops here & there and you never know. here's hoping!

Mourinho won't get sacked, he'll just pressurise until he goes supercritical and then explode.

Another misleading headline (not that it matters now)

[Link]

'Palace Chairman Parish can understand why Zaha wanted to leave'

Unless they have left something out, then he never actually says that Zaha wanted to leave; in fact, what he does say is:

“Of course it [Zaha staying] is important for the club. He is a massively important figure for the club. But we also recognise that this is world-class player and we recognise that there is a desire from everyone in their profession to get to the very top of their profession. But it was not the right time for him and that is good for us a football club.”

This indicates that it was Zaha's decision to stay rather than Parish refusing to sanction his exit, which sounds like a big positive to me and seems more in keeping with his behaviour and attitude pre-season (i.e. positive)

At least that’s how he’s spun it, the truth is normally less black and white but I’ll take this version of events. Fact is Wilf seems happy here still. Hope he has a stella season for us.

I’ve never been one to predict when his time to move on will come. But from Parish’s statement I think he’s nailed on to leave next summer. He clearly has made noises to Parish about going, so see it only logical that we’ve likely only got one more season with him.

Unless the unimaginable happens and we secure a Europa place.. only way I see him playing for us next season is if we qualify.

Courtesy of the net I gave just read today’s article in the Evening Standard. I am not IT savvy enough to provide a link but it does put matters (with WZ quotes) into very positive perspective!

If we've racked up enough points by January to nigh on secure safety then there's every chance he'll leave then. I wouldn't be surprised if they have a gentlemens agreement with Wilf on that basis. All subject to getting a massive offer too of course ...

The reality is that we won't be in that position so he'll stay until the end of the season. I'm sure the club are looking at suitable replacements now. They'll have to as replacing such a talent will take months.

In any case, we have to start preparing for life without our Wilf! He's the real deal, as we've all known and now the rest of the footballing fraternity have finally woken up to that fact. He's a winner who can carry a team and change games by himself so deserves to win things ... any maybe we might just do it with him this season! We'll see ...
