Have these Borneo friends of yours published any cookbooks? You know, along the lines of 'if you have a surplus of babies and no cousins to give them to, here is a stew recipe'.

I would steer clear of the tender "baby ribs".

I don't really see a problem with this. Granted, I'd suggest birth control, but it was pretty common place. My parents raised my cousin, admittedly more because his dad (and I use the term lightly) couldn't seem to work out that if he didn't want kids, he should use contraception (His brother was the same, I was going to take in his youngest of six at one point).

There isn't really too much of an excuse in the western world for having more kids than you want.

Obviously there is a problem with it.

As for being more thoughtful please explain to me how a gay man can show empathy with his teenage daughter for her period pain, having never experienced it ? Similarly how could a mother show empathy for a young lad whose voice is breaking, or worse has a cold

I guess they have to make do as best they can, like any single parent has to do, or get a female friend to weight in (such as a relative, friend of the family).

Empathy doesn't require experience, it requires sympathy and affection. Just because you haven't experienced period pain, doesn't mean you can't show empathy for the suffering. It just means its full comprehension is beyond me.

But you just have to do your best - its what parenting is largely about, making the most, muddling through and a lot of talking about s**t you don't really know much about.

Not really, there is a problem with having more kids than you can afford, but in terms of resolving that problem, giving a new born to parents who don't have kids is a pretty good solution.

Its 'feckless' but this is Borneo - there are much bigger problems in the world and for families than raising a nephew or niece as your own) and its not uncommon historically either.

More than a few people have discovered their older sister is really their mother, or their aunt is really their mum, their Uncle their dad etc.

I donated sperm for sometime as a youth at University - there are probably kids out there who I am the biological father for, poor sods.

So being brought up by people other than your parents isn't a problem?

Have you had the look at the statistics on this?

It's a very real and painfully obvious problem.

When you said you were in HR, I didn't realise you literally meant 'headhunting'.
