No surprise that Fara Williams said Thiago Silva was "clever" on Final Score. Guess what club she started her career with ? Whilst I respect that former football players can front coverage on television but wouldn't it be nice to have them not "bleat" about their former teams, even if this means Wrighty doesn't blow the Palace trumpet on occasions ? Beyond this, sounds like we gave it a good go and were undone by two quality strikes, the second being one quite hard to take. Nice to see an attacking line up from the off today and I'm sure results will come in the future. COYP !! Edited by Booted Eagle (01 Oct 2022 10.01pm)

1) Guaita is an excellent shot-stopper, though mediocre at commanding the box, controlling the defense, and playing the ball with his feet. 2) Giving up late goals is something worth analyzing. Is it because we become physically tired, mentally tired, or because our substitutes lack the feel of how to integrate with the other defenders at the end of the match? Or is their quality a notch or two below that of our (mostly top-level) opponents? Vieira and Osian Roberts must wonder, too. 3) From his post-game comments, it's clear that PV is beginning to see the big-club bias (subconscious or not) of the officials. I wonder if he was aware of it as a player. If any of our players had made the Silva play vs. any Top 6 attacker, it would have been a red. 4) I appreciate Parish's willingness to support players vs. officials (he was active on Twitter today) but in the long run it may be counterproductive. 5) I thought our fans' support of Gallagher was very classy, even after the match. I hope Palace players appreciate it rather than resent it, as some fans seemed to. Very sporting of us – as it should be.

Some of the criticism on here seems a bit OTT for me even if there is some truth behind statements. VG's kicking was awful today, but so were the backpasses, and the oft occasion we gave the ball away dangerously, or seemed intent to play one touch passes in and around our own box for some reason... not that I don't like giving the old ticker a workout. He is a stay at home GK and that is worrying but he has, and can, put in brilliant performances for us. The days of Wilf getting the ball after we've defended for our lives being the only possible way we'd get a goal are over however but seemingly so are those when he'd get it with even a modicum of space and you'd think 'here we go'. Seems to favour the backwards or sideways passes these days although for me now poses the greatest threat on goal. Chelsea had the ball for long periods however we played some nice stuff ourselves and they didn't look very threatening for most of that spell. One good move that came off and Gallagher being given an acre of space for some reason was our downfall. They had a few other chances but despite the vast majority of possession I thought we looked more likely to stick it in the back of the net. The midfield still worries me, it looks what it is for me and that is unbalanced. Eze (CAM), Olise (winger), Schlupp(??) today are not really 'CMs'. Individually they are good players who hold attributes that bring something others cannot however none really fit that 'CM' bracket. I'm still not sure why Doucoure was brought off perhaps someone can enlighten me (genuine Q.)? He looked the only one likely to win the ball today and when he went off we suffered for it. The space Gallagher was given at the end just highlighted it for me, plus our weakness in that area despite no Kante. May just be me of course but it didn't look good on paper or the pitch. 1-1 or even 1-0 would have been a great result, and with the performance, promising. A bit sharper/luck or what have you and we could've scored more. I never deny anyone a good ol' moan, b!tch or straight up rant, as I've stated more than once on here I think it's the sign of a true football fan. Bitterly, f**king awfully disappointing however I'm just offering an opinion here. We've got a far 'easier' run coming up and the table is still somewhat tight. Also, it's as old as time, common as muck and therefore usually does not warrant contemplation... but the ref was awful today, was the archetype 'big club getting every decision and smaller club none' performance. Shortly before their goal he gave a free kick on our break which just simply wasn't, I was almost perfectly in line with it, not even close. Just on a final note of this never ending post, I have a theory that the club thought we'd be OK for the first part of the season and wanted to see how we got on before making any more moves in the transfer market and that was the reason for the lack of activity towards the end of the window. Just a theory nothing more. If true though I hope the attention is on Midfield but more so hope for better against Leeds. COYP Edited by Nicholas91 (01 Oct 2022 10.29pm)

I think today was the day that our lack of squad depth has really been spelled out and there was a feeling of inevitability at the end. We were unable to cope at all with the loss of Andersen from an attacking perspective as much as defensive and there was nothing to change up with from the bench when the team were tiring. The decision not to acquire another attacking option when Benteke was given the push is criminal and this is going to be a very tough season. I would agree , the 5 subs this season was always going to play into the hands of the richer clubs with better benches . Pulasic assist for CG for the winner . We cant compete with that, our subs normally make us weaker .

He does a lot of dirty work for the team and is far more physical than most. Same here, works his socks off every game. Appreciate he doesn't always deliver but always is on the mix for free kicks etc

I have no doubt he may of Becky but I genuinely cannot recall! I think we had a number of injury scares today with Nat going off on a stretcher the worst. I thought Marc was done for at one point which would have really left us in the proverbial! This may seem insincere but it is absolutely genuine, I have this feeling that every time I've watched us Doucoure gets taken off??? I think he's quality and our only 'out and out' central midfielder who is guaranteed a start but I thought early on he may be struggling with a full 90 or something? Again, very genuine question as I often doubt my own sanity, memory and eyes these days!!

Just seen the Silva handball, I’m not sure we have officials making impartial decisions here. That was such a deliberate handball that I have ever seen. If it was in the box it would have been a penalty and a sending off. I’m gradually losing the love for the game..

I said after the game I have lost the love of the game and there is something more sinister going on with the Officials, rather than jus incompetence. Notwithstanding the handball, how quick did he get yellow card out! and the way he was standing it was obviously not going to get upgraded, it was decisions throughout the whole game. Olise constantly being taken down off the ball,, I lost count how many fouls Kovacic committed. The throw in just before the goal, they had no idea who to award it to and even the free kick prior to goal was iffy.
