The guy just coppies the words of David Hume, he argues poorly, not a hero in my eyes but he is entitled to his opinion

Yes he is, but sadly he doesn't believe that right should be extended to others.

My username has nothing to do with my religious beliefs

I assume you're talking about the 'God Delusion', which is where I departed company with Dawkins, as I agree it tends towards being critically quite poor in constructing an argument.

Quite the opposite of the Blind Watchmaker and the Selfish Gene, the first of which is an excellent defense of evolutionary theory.

Yes he is, but sadly he doesn't believe that right should be extended to others.

Even in the God Delusion, Dawkins main issue isn't with forcing his opinion on others, but the degree to which religion is represented in state, without supporting evidence. Dawkins, for example, would point at Abortion laws in Ireland, and argue that these laws represent Catholic influence, rather than actual government policy, and that in doing so, people are oppressed by the opinions of others, not by knowledge.

As such, political parties will co-opt Religion to support their political basis, irrespective of evidence, and as such creates a bias in society by which religious ideas wield power over non-religious people.

Somehow along the way Dawkins seems to have managed to sideline a very valid point, into becoming some kind of rent-a-quote attack dog for Atheism and secularism, probably because he's good 'interview'.

But he did have a very valid point about the role of religion in society, and influence.

I don't want to upset Superfly again so I will just have you imagine me sitting in front of my laptop with a " I'm glad he doesn't live next door to me" look on my face.

Well done, you're learning, that actually IS banter.

Judge, you can pretty much say what you like but you can't insult other users. Have a read through the forum rules if you need clarification.

Apologies Superfly.

There is a fine line and I will endeavor not to cross it.
I will say that posting on this site is a pleasure because the mods are fair minded and the debate is civilized. I have been on the BBS where insults and any accusation imaginable are allowed (provided you are in the clique with the mods)Not a nice place.

I will accept that some are not keen on the God delusion but aside from the book reviews, Dawkins' message is clear and constant. Religion is not the answer and never will be.
To fit god into the blank spaces where our knowledge is lacking is just a cop out and such a policy is guaranteed to keep large numbers of people in perpetual ignorance.

Cheers Judge

I agree the BBS is much more lax when it comes to dissing but we try and keep it down (although I'm sure you'll spot discretions occasionaly) - to our credit imo. I think it ruins a thread when it turns all playgroundy.

'Banter' cussing is wholy encouraged though Of course, there's a danger of going overboard but as long as the recipient knows it's just leg pulling then there's generally no harm done. Even if you're ribbing someone on a cast iron stone solid dyed in the wool fact like dannyh's olympic gold for shirt lifting

I got that impression from your posts on this thread. But now I know you are not, I'll feel free to take the mick.

No, not me. Mod's on this site tend to hold off unless a post is reported on so it's fairly self moderated really. Just thought I'd give Judge a friendly nod to let him know he was possibly risking a card.

You take the mick all you like Del boy Taking the mick is about 98.4% of all my posts. When that get's veto'd I'm bang in trouble.
