There's no such thing as home and away kits. Our kit is red and blue, then you have alternate kits for when colours clash. Wouldn't class us the same club as the original crystal Palace but nothing wrong paying homage to them with a 3rd kit, every clubs third kit is basically whatever they want it to be. I get what you are saying, but...... we have our first choice kit, which has the home advantage - we will always wear it at selhurst. When we play away, if they clash, we have to use our alternate, 2nd kit, which is considered the away kit... as you wouldn't wear it at home. However, for marketing purposes, a 3rd kit is introduced and is just a money maker. so.. yeah.

I had or have the yellow cuffed one and love it dearly Originally posted by Hrolf The Ganger
Not that I recall. There was the '69 blue cuff and neck version and the later yellow cuff and neck with the gold 'Crystal Palace' across the stripe.

Our away kit could be yellow or green and we could keep that colour every season and there would never be any issues. We change them yearly just to make money. Aslong as we keep red and blue stripes for our home, I couldn't really care what they do with the others

We had traditional red and blue stripes and then some bright spark decided our away kit should be all blue! and then the 3rd kit all red! Was all very silly and we seemed to wear a different kit every week.

The problem with our club is historically our identity is pretty tinpot, we started with the help of Aston villa, lending their kits and wore a variation of white claret and blue for years when we really should have decided our own strip a long time before. We decide to rebrand in the early 70's, changing not only our strip but the clubs nickname, I wasn't alive back then and don't know how fans allowed it to happen, should have remained the glaziers, its pretty disrespectful to the founding members of our football club, maybe the older fans could let us know how it was received.
Not only that but a new rivalry is started with Brighton so we have fans alive today that have completely different views on who we are as club. There will be some fans who have watched Palace for more years without the red & blue, eagles and Brighton rivalry than they have with it. We can't just keep chopping and changing. The way the club has now tried to claim the original crystal Palace fc is even more tinpot. Instead of we've found a book in a South Norwood library we are the oldest professional club in the world, they could have just said, we understand the 2 clubs are separate but we belive the original club was indirectly responsible for Crystal Palace 1905 and we will pay homage to them with this new 3rd kit.

Does anyone know if I can buy the adult shirt WITHOUT some gambling company's logo on it ? I really wish the club would find a different shirt sponsor. The sooner all gambling companies are banned from advertising the better.

Steve Martyniuk's The Origin of Crystal Palace FC book has revealed the 1905 side played in cardinal red, not claret. He has the minutes from the founding meetings and newspaper cuttings from the early years stating this. Agree with you on the last point re paying homage to the first CPFC. It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses. |
