Garth Crooks has picked Silva for his team of the week, and he says: “ I'm inclined to agree that Thiago Siva was lucky to stay on the pitch. The last man in defence rule was designed to stop the cynical foul and yet referee Chris Kavanagh elected to leave the Chelsea defender on the pitch regardless of his deliberate handball. However, when players make a late challenge in a desperate attempt to win the ball but are beaten due to the speed or ingenuity of the opponent, no latitude is often given.” So he is saying it wasn’t a red because “it was only Jordan Ayew” (as others are saying), and he seems to be condoning this. No wonder there is big club bias. I'm not even sure what that means. what has Latitude got to do with it? is he saying that the desperate Player should be given leniency because he acted in desperation? The more and more I watch the incident the more of a nailed on Red it is. Sport is something where cheating should be, and is outlawed. So whether it's by the letter of the law or not, blatant cheating should be punished wherever possible in it's harshest form. And you can't get much More blatant than what Silva did. Several posts have mentioned the pressure (on the pitch and via social media) that refs are under from the 'top' clubs & fans, so here's a thought to take the pressure off them over their decisions (right or wrong ones)..... make it a bookable offence for any player other than the Team Captain to approach and remonstrate with the referee during a match. Might mean several games having to be abandoned because their aren't enough players left on the pitch after a contentious tackle/goal/play, but they'd soon get the hang of it....

Of course it'd work a treat. It's been needed for feckin years but will it get implemented? Not a snowball's chance in the fires of hell. The FA are too gutless to bring in such a sensible rule.

Edoaurd got a yellow very early on and his first tackle i think. Surely thats got to put the brakes on a player, it wasnt even a yellow card compared to some of the tackles made by chelsea. This is how refs can manipulate the game without it being overtly obvious ( make unwarranted bookings). Also there was that non goal that ayew scored in the city game. because he fouled the goalie. we all know if that was haaland it would have been laud3d as excellent forward play and been applauded by the press. I got very excited also , but not in a good way Lets just say the air was bluer ( if thats a word ) than his shirt . What is it with ex players that want to score against their ex clubs . I remember the last time Murray was at SP for Brighton . He was running around like a f***ing gazelle on steriods. Then didnt celebrate .

Now clearly it was an obvious handball and it was what is known as a DOGSO (Denying a goal or an Obvious Goal Scoring Opportunity) When you get taught about this on your course you're told to take into account the Distance to the goal, the Direction the attacker is travelling and the distance of the defenders. I'll admit this one was a tough one but taking my Palace glasses off and putting my referee glasses on Ayew was to the left hand side of the pitch. His direction of travel was to the left and not towards the goal. His distance from goal was still about 35 yards and there was another defender, apart from Silva level with him or just behind him when the foul occurred. I think taking all that into consideration I can see why a yellow was given and not a red. However it was a tight one I'll admit. I hope this explains things a little bit for everyone. Don't waste your time with jealousy. Sometimes your ahead, sometimes your behind, the race is long. But in the end it's only with yourself!! |

It seems so cruel that a complete accidental handball on a shot that may've been on target would be penalised with a red...but that from Silva gets a yellow.
