Its not but then the Newcastle one wasn't a penalty either Having sobered up and calmed down you are right it was not the same. However the defender impeded Schlupps attempt to shoot, a penal for some teams

This is the point I have been making but not as succinctly as you. Hodgson was getting criticised for basic coaching points e.g. not being able to defend a set piece. Glasner has fixed that in 5 minutes, and we've looked a lot more likely to score from one. We all know the squad is short of depth, but at least Glasner has got to the point where it is actual inability causing the issues - Anderson at Spurs, the missed chances v Luton, the missed chances at Forest, the missed chances last night... Glasner also, unlike Hodgson, hasn't actively contributed to the injury issues. I still hold that he should have been sacked within minutes of the Brighton game finishing.

Results aren't there yet, but performances are miles up on where they were under Hodgson. Glasner has come in, immediately found a system which gets more out of our squad and already shown more willingness to integrate some of the young players into the squad. Even yesterday, the solution of playing Lerma at CB is not something Roy would have done in a million years, and it worked very well for the most part. I'm very excited for next season under Glasner if we can get the recruitment right - some of our patterns of play yesterday were better than anything I saw under Roy. We need to get the squad a hell of a lot fitter, and add some depth throughout, but I think this 'free hit' spell at the back end of this season is going to be really valuable in terms of Glasner getting a feel for the team and vice versa.

Glasner is all about his attacking goal threat and making chances. There was absolutely NOTHING of that tonight. Quite pathetic. Ozoh looks like another lemon. He comes on and like Ahamada just looks awful. We lack depth. We need answers to what went wrong with Glasner’s strategy.
Like when FDB, when he came in he wanted us to play the Ajax system but the players couldn't adjust within a short time. Now with Glasner, he wants us to play fast attacking football but with key players injured we couldn't do that we an unbalanced squad in terms of quality. I am afraid some of the players are still ingrained in Roy's style.

Wash your mouth out speaking about Zaha like that. Eze isn't on his level. Zaha was doing carrying the team before he was 20. He has contributed more to our success over the past decade than anyone else. Edited by george1212 (02 Apr 2024 10.32pm) Agree with this - for all his talent, Eze isn't in the same stratosphere as Zaha for consistently impacting games. I'd go as far as saying I think we win that game yesterday with Wilf - Eze was unacceptably wasteful.

All true, but the point I am making is that there was far more depth to the criticism of Roy beyond just the state of the squad. There were historical criticisms of the 'style' and the expectation upon a manager who had been around the club for many years is surely different to one who has shortly arrived, brand new, to a pretty dire state. That's not to say Roy deserved 'shot and shell' and that Glasner is immune from the criticism, but they're two very different circumstances. Glasner hasn’t provided the new manager bounce, apart a win against a dire Sheff Utd. There is no noticeable difference in the team play from Roy’s tenure, still can’t keep a clean sheet, letting in goals for fun after 75 minutes, not looking like winning any time soon. They are the same players, Glasner just can’t lift them, yes our best players are missing, they were also missing for Roy as well. Our second foreign manager, hasn’t really been an improvement on the first.

What I attempted to articulate is that the discussion has gallivanted down the 'Squad' alley whereas in the era of 'Mr Hodgson' somehow he was the 'Lightning Rod' for criticism even though he was constrained by squad depth as is Glasner at the present time. Only last night I was whimpering to my dear wife about our squad before the game had commenced. She has heard all of this before ! The thing with Roy though is he didn't try anything different, same old, same old, never 2 up top, never a diamond in midfield, always inverted wingers, and he would have known all their is to know about the players in his squad, Glasner has had 4 games, probably find out how inadequate most of his players are, whoever takes the blame, it certainly isn't Glasner

Complete Rubbish, If Wilf was that good he would have joined a top club, nobody even wanted him on a free, instead of it tailing off at a very poor Turkey farm, Eze needs some other players that can pass and can read the game, unfortunately only Wharton and Munoz seems capable, if Olise returns, you will see the difference, in the four games he has a goal, an assist, a marginal offside, for another, with crap support, get a grip.
