I know this will go down on here like a bacon sandwich at a bar mitzvah but I thought Luka for one has been deserving of at least the same level of opprobrium.

He's lost that speed of thought. You can see him hesitate when he gets the ball, rather than know g what to do with it before he get's it.....if that makes sense..

He has been getting old and now has got older.

Time to move him upstairs and bring in someone younger

All that's happened to Punch is that his pre-retirement performance drop-off has started early whilst the level of the league has increased.

It's a shame that he appears to be the only player we have who can do the on-pitch organising that every team needs.

Well I think Simon's head is large; always involved in espionage. (Name that tune)

It's almost comical to watch him and remember that he's meant to be one of our creative players.

I suspect Jason is one of the few players who loves the club and genuinely cares. There were players a lot worse than him yesterday and from what I witnessed he looked anything but 'disinterested'. As unpopular as this sentiment might be among the fickle boo boys, give it a rest.

I agree my point of the post was if you bothered to read it, is he appears non effective at the moment. So is the captaincy a step too far for him. Remove the captaincy he may be more positive, effective without the added pressure ? It's a thought from someone who cares about our club. How can we get Puncheon playing at his most effective ?

and it's goodnight from me.......

Quite simple he has reached the end of the line, if you think back he's not been effective for almost 2 years. Gone are the days of him really "making it happen" he is now shot shy when going forward and his passing is frankly awful. Seems he can only run in circles or turn backwards. Time for him to be taken out of the firing line.

^^ This. Has been poor for two years now. We've lost 7 of our last 8 PL games without scoring a goal so how he can be thought of as a good captain escapes me. Should be nowhere near the first team, especially when he's ahead of YC or JM.

"my point of the post was if you bothered to read it..."

And the point of my post was to take issue with your unfounded criticism that Jason is 'disinterested'. Or didn't you bother to read it?

I know it's fashionable on here to slag him off whilst ignoring the poor performances of others, but questioning his commitment is taking it too far.

We are all disappointed and frustrated, but Jason isn't the sole (or even principle) cause.

I'm hoping it will all still come good. Like most on here I'd have preferred us to have stuck with what we do best. But we've chosen a different route and it's a time to pull together, not look for scapegoats.

Punch has never really got about the pitch. He cannot play in a two midfield. He has always played behind the striker or on the wing, as this is where he is most effective. With the injuries he should have played in three with Benteke and Townsend. MacArthur cabay and Milo behind and 4 at the back..we would have probably won with that side.

Surely the only question that needs posing is
"Is there anyone better than Punch to play in his 'position'?"

My answer is quite simply, yes.

I said at the beginning of last season Punch looked to have aged about 10 years over the summer.

A fantastic player for us, one of our own and yes probably the only leader we have at the moment.

However from a footballing perspective he looks slow, off the pace and indecisive and has done for some time now and is not up to the standard of the PL.

I think people who are complaining he is being singled out for criticism are wasting time on a forum (it's a single thread for one purpose and there are numerous others Hennessy, Kelly etc). All are underperforming currently but Punch has been way off for some time.

Just my opinion but I do actually find it quite sad and don't want my opinion of him to be tarnished or for him to be a scapegoat for us getting constantly hammered this season. Think RLC should be in the no.10 role

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

Puncheon is a liability and that's putting it mildly. He lacks speed and sadly many skills required to play at this level. I counted at least 5 times yesterday where he lost possession when challenged in one on one situations! One resulting in a needless caution. He can't pass with his right foot and his first touch is poor at best. I think he would struggle to make most championship club's rosters frankly, so why is he the first player picked every week? Why he was given the captaincy is beyond me, better off giving it to Zaha IMHO.

I understand he has been a loyal servant to the club over the years but his output has been diminishing greatly for over 2 seasons now. Time to replace him.
Mind you all of the above applies to quite a few others in the squad too. We need to get rid of the deadwood NOW!
