I’d want to keep him. But if Leicester offer silly money and we can get yannick back or lookman or even that German we were linked with for a good fee, then go for it

But saying that, the one thing we were missing last year was a third back up pacey decent winger. We sell and replace Townsend only leaves us short still when injury to him or wilf occurs

IF we were to sell, hopefully it’d be to fund a replacement plus a backup.

Andros is great but I doubt his stock for us would go higher. Right price with the right couple of deals lined up. Then it could work well.

Anyone who thinks we can sell him and replace with equal or better is crazy. One thing the board have done fantastically well that has been ignored by many is keeping players at the club unless we want to sell. People that don’t rate him bade performance completely on goals and assists. Do not sell!

Excluding Glen Murray of course and possibly even Jedinak

Jedinak we (Pardew) wanted to sell so yes and Murray wanted to play and Pardew didn’t plan to play him, plus there was an element of ‘business decision’ in there.

Townsend was an integral part of the team which did so well to ensure survival after a dreadful start. He played 39 games last season and even though he only scored 2 goals this did not reflect his overall contribution when one considers his work when the opposition were in possession.

We don't want to lose such players, players who fit into the ethos of the team, players who provide versatility and balance to the team shape.

It seems that every transfer window since he came Andros is rumoured to be on his way. First Newcastle wanted him back and then others were sniffing around, at least that's what the papers kept saying. If I believed all these rumours he'd have been off a dozen times.

Not quite as stupid an idea as selling Zaha, but certainly up there. Wish he could shoot though.

No one except DutchEagleJohan on the previous page of this thread. Which is probably why no one else mentioned it.

RIghtly or wrongly we chose to sell them, we didn’t get a big offer for a first teamer that we accepted.
I can’t name a player over the last few years we’ve sold with a small club mentality

I’d say Bolasie was the last starting first XI player we sold and to be fair the money we got at the time was good business and don’t think any one complained as it made sense.

I’m not saying we should sell Townsend but if a substantial offer comes in for him like it did Bolasie then it might be good business. That’s not to say he has been a good player for us, of course he has.

My thoughts are though that a silly offer could help build a better team.

As posted in Tranfser Talk I’d seriously consider Iheanacho even if Townsend went in the other direction.

Good strikers are hard to find and he’s stuck behind Vardy and itching for first team football.

I’d say that would solve a bigger problem we have and then the search for a Townsend replacement shouldn’t be an impossible task.
