Normally I'd completely agree with you Old Geezer. I can't remember the last time I really liked one of our kits, not once I got past 21 years of age anyway, and even if I really liked a kit we brought out I probably wouldn't buy it - I'm not a replica shirt kind of guy. Usually I shrug at the new kit and forget about it. However... This one is so very bad that for the first time I'm actually annoyed at having to watch the team play in it. I dislike it so much that I've taken a minute to consider why. I think it's three things: 1. It's just so s*** looking. Even if you'd never seen a football kit before in your life and you were shown ten examples including ours, you'd know ours was awful, just on its merits. 2. You can't go five minutes without some idiot taking it upon themselves to make a significant, unwanted and poorly judged change to some part of football. From VAR to Thursday night games to European super leagues, some arsehole always thinks they know better than to stick with the recipe which made football an international success and cultural cornerstone. 'What's that you say, they've played in either red and blue stripes or a sash on white background for fifty years, and are synonymous with that unique heritage? Well, the making of unnecessary changes is what I'm all about, and I've got a GCSE in social media so I know best. Now, here's your s*** kit.' 3. Who asked for this? Who was consulted? It's the arrogance of it that irritates me.
Look BTP, I have a lot of time and respect for your posts. I like what you say and the views you express. Well thought out and articulate. As others have said on here this new kit seems to have polarised our thinking. You clearly don't like it, I happen to think it's OK. It's a darn sight better than the kits some of our competitors have to pull on. In truth, I too would prefer things didn't change and that we kept the same kit year on year and still wore claret and blue. I'm an old geezer don't forget. But the modern trend dictates that it has to change every year and surely the board has to approve it. I'm just surprised that so many hate it. But there we are. All different. Makes the world go round.
Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled. |

27 pages on the kit? I know you either like it or hate it but I think some people just don't like change or something different. Makes no sense having a sash, white with the red and blue line, so much clashes with other kits. Anyway we have always had red and blue stripes for years now. Id argue that you have the sash in the away kit even though its a straight line.

I agree with those who don't want to see the team wear this kit. Of course it is a choice not to buy one, but watching home games cannot avoid. It's the kit equivalent of having JdB as manager. Desperation for change leads to doing something totally different and it quickly goes pants. Edited by HKOwen (05 Aug 2021 1.00pm)
Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance. |

If we do well, this will be a classic kit. If poorly, consigned to the dustbin of history.

Good Points well made. I will go with this. Originally posted by sydtheeagle
Personally, I loathe it. It's visually abhorrent. The colours are "wrong", the diagonal stripes are wrong, they don't end "in the right place" anyway, and all-in-all it looks like tweaking for tweaking's sake. Strange that in a season we produce our best new kit in years (the third kit), we come up with this crime against humanity. But, I said personally. That's just my opinion and I'll be the first to admit that having watched Palace since the late 60s, I'm hardly in my fashion moment. The strange thing is, much as I dislike the kit, I get it. It is "modern". The design is innovative. It does set us apart from virtually every other kit in the PL. It does craft a strong identity for the club. Is it marmite? Definitely. But shops sell a truckload of marmite and marmite is a pretty profitable business. Putting my own personal taste aside, I actually think the shirt is pretty good in so far as it does what you probably want a contemporary football shirt to do. Still thinks it's revolting, but I do get it.

Not overly impressed, but in my opinion it’s better than last seasons, which grew on me over time. Hated that with a passion this time last year. I don’t know why the kit designer is trying to be clever. Simple red and blue vertical stripes is all we want. None of this yellow trim or white lines through the stripe. Keep it basic like Spurs have done. Oh well, there’s more important stuff to worry about.
