We are not a team in the true sense of the word.
I said a long while back that getting rid of Jedi would be the biggest mistake Pardew could ever make and so it has proven to be.
Playing or on the bench he was CPFC, he was the leader off and on the park.
I am convinced that even with him not always playing but still being with us we would not be where we are now.
He would have dealt with so much and again how much happier i would have felt with him there yesterday.
I blame AP for that and much more besides but it is now down to the players to sort this out.
They need to become a unit again as opposed to a highy paid bunch of individuals!
Team, team, team!!!!!

The problems are as much off the pitch as they are on it, probably more so.

The change of manager has altered absolutely nothing. Players who, on paper, should make us an upper-mid table side are simply not performing. I don't think there's a single manager out there who could change it.

Something, and I simply cannot work out what, happened at the end of 2015 where a massive cloak of negativity suddenly and without warning descended on the club. Players who played creatively and cohesively just stopped functioning. Our mentality changed almost overnight, it was that sudden. Under Pardew, we finished the 14/15 season and started 15/16 very promisingly but spectacularly (and it really was spectacular) fell apart afterwards. How can it simply be down to one man, who got us playing so attracively and so consistently, for this collapse, and if it was, why can his successor (who, like him or hate him, has a rep for putting out tight and disciplined sides) not halt the slide?

There seems to be an atmosphere almost like death about the place - everything we built up, the support, the obvious team spirit, the 'never say die' mentality, Fortress Selhurst has evaporated in a puff of smoke. Is it really possible that one man could have destroyed all that, and so suddenly? It's the sudden-ness of the collapse that perplexes me. What can possibly bring about such a dramatic change in so short a period of time?

It beats me, it really does.

I have no argument with those sentiments and find myself equally perplexed.

The mistake was not replacing Jedinak. After all, he was with us for the second half of the 15/16 season which is when we slumped and his performances in that period weren't particularly impressive. We were already in a downward spiral while he was with us.

Wife beating may be socially acceptable in Sheffield, but it is a different matter in Cheltenham

Players almost feel cursed at home, anyone who plays football at any level will get it.
When you atart to thin 'we never seem to beat this team' or 'we never win when its raining' or 'we never win monday night matches'. Ours is 'we always lose horribly at home', once you feel like that then it becomes a permernant change in mentality. If you turn up convinced you are going to lose then nothing anyone says is going to change that. Sam will try but the mindset is so hard but it has to happen.
The game against Bournemouth helped the players with thier away mentality but the home mentality still has to be fixed.
On the upside, i think we will beat Stoke for exactly that reason!!!

We've replaced players who cared with big-money signings who know that if we go down we won't be able to afford to keep them, so they'll be back in the PL with another club after another lucrative move.

Tactically, everything is too slow and laboured. Even Puncheon's quite clever free-kick yesterday took so long to reach Zaha that any advantage from it was lost.

Indeed, we were worse when he played in his last year at the club. We never replaced him and, apparently, needed no more cover at the back.

If Hangeland is telling the truth about scouting his replacement, that tells us a lot about AP's attitude to the defence.

If you come to a fork in the road, take it.

He claimed that Pardew made him scout out his replacement, and he picked Tomkins.

Under Pardew when we were playing a dide near the bottom, his mentality was to shock the opposition into mistakes, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesnt, when our confidence went, it consistantly didnt.
I dont want to be 'that guy' but shocking teams into mistakes is a lot easier when you have Bolassie and Zaha on the wings and battering rams in midfield!!! All we have left of that is Zaha and on a bad day, thats not really a threat...

Excellent post, I think you can add to this no leader on the pitch. Whilst Dann be a good player he is no captain. Just cannot motivate.

And one more thing let's stop blaming Pardew, it's getting boring. Instead concentrate on the here and now. He was here now he is gone. The current manager is the one we should be focussing on both to support and where necessary constructively criticise.
