Thanks but this doesn't really answer the question. Kerms described the Grenfell cladding as "cheap aluminium stuff". Your link to the Independent merely shows that a batch of it cost less than a batch of some alternative. I'm just trying to understand what was meant by the adjective "cheap" in this example. A top of the range Mercedes costs a lot less than a top of the range Ferrari, but I wouldn't describe a Mercedes as "cheap". It seems the cladding used cost £22 per square metre -The fire-resistant version would have been £24 per square metre. So, c. 8.5% cheaper. In terms of what the overall difference in cost would be re the main stand, sorry no idea. Edited by legaleagle (02 Jul 2017 11.22am)

I'm not confused, but yes - "cheaper" would make more sense, especially as another poster has now enlightened us that the unit price between the zinc and aluminium alternatives isn't particularly great. But I suspect you used "cheap" with critical intent. Anyway, I'm certainly - like you - confused by the subsequent timber-related "teasing" of your post. I've no idea what those posters were on about either!!

As for the price - it was the cheap(er) alternative of two but still what a rip off, eh?
