Human cruelty concerns me much more. However, I think many of us have disquiet over the wanton mistreatment of animals and we expect the authorities to properly police it. There is no excuse for mistreatment other than human dysfunctionality.

I'm not a keen bird watcher by any means, but we've been much entertained by a family of woodpeckers this year. Great Spotted I think. They made a perfect round hole in an old Ornamental Cherry tree, hatched their brood, flitted in and out furiously feeding the little'uns and then, suddenly, flew the nest and were gone. Fun while it lasted. As I say, not an expert, but does anyone know if they're likely to return next year? Are they birds of habit?
Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled. |

Another indicator of today's throw-away culture. Quickie divorces and disposable children. Now it seems our superfluous belongings are subject to prolonged extreme cruelty, when ownership becomes a chore, and they ultimately can't bring themselves to do the job properly. The perpetrators need some kind of rehabilitation at a Guantanamo Bay facility.
I disengage, I turn the page. |
