Our new Brazilian to shine

Rak-Sakyi to become a starter

Edouard to bang in 10 to 15 goals

Eze to be even better this season

Hopefully bring in 2 or 3 players before the window closes

I might be alone on this, but there was a point where I think Mitchell himself lost the ball and in the most relaxed way sort of went ‘excuse me that’s my ball’ to their winger, who had it in a dangerous position, won it back and played it out with no sweat.

I know it’s a strange comment but was very encouraging to see that from him. He was brilliant upon arrival bur then started to catch a bit of flak. Hopefully he has another good season.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

I've not seen the game but my son did while he's on holiday abroad and his synopsis is that Sheffield Utd are "dogs***".

So many pant wetting posts, it's embarrassing.
One thing that I am pleased to see is a solid competitive midfield, allied to some attacking flair. With step-over kid Zaha gone,
Ayew showed how it should be done - make the yard, flash in the cross, and Edouard should be there or thereabouts to poke in, that's his job.
Zaha never understood this, and sometimes I think fans are in the belief that a goal can only come about through a dribble that beats 3 defenders before beating the keeper with a perfect shot into the top corner. On the contrary.

I think you're the one that should be embarrassed after posting that. I don't like the manner of his exit but give it up.

I sort of have two general takes on things ahead of the new season, kicking off shortly, which alternates dependent on my mood at any given time so am keen to see what side of the fence others are on. I’ll characterise these as (1) ‘Pant wetting’ and (2) ‘Calm your pants’. ‘Pant wetting’ I believe generally refers to a hysterical despair often felt by football fans (considered by some as unwarranted) whilst ‘calm your pants’ may just be a phrase coined within my own circles to steady someone who has become rattled.

My thoughts on Pant Wetting/Calm your pants are currently:

1. We have Roy, this signals no spending or fighting with little resource which could see us in huge trouble/ We have Roy, we know it may not be pretty but no need for panic.

2. Only two incomings, one of whom is untried, untested and unfit, still unsure at wing backs, lack of depth and and have not very much going on up top/ we usually do some business late, haven’t lost anyone meaningful beyond Wilf and Lerma alongside Doucoure and behind Eze is a very solid midfield with the two centre backs and Johnstone providing a good spine.

3. Other teams seem to be strengthening where we have not, it’s a competitive league and our lack of movement regarding players could see us in big trouble/ There are undoubtedly three worse teams than us with the likes of Wolves, Luton and Sheffield United most likely in for extremely tough seasons.

So what’s the verdict? Is there genuine reason to panic? Is there enough there to fret but not to any worrying extent especially with window still open? Or is any worrying completely ridiculous and unnecessary?

Our squad needed strengthening. Since then we have lost some talent and experience - we have added a decent squad player, perhaps starter and a player that's a gamble but still a long ways off.

We hired back a retired manager as we couldn't identify anyone to accept the role and join us. Parish has no money, he spends others... that's not really how it works..

We need a chairman that spends his money... and we need to keep up with this league... that's the price to pay.

This was once a quality forum....

What an ignorant, stupid post.

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled.

Thought it was a bit odd too, saying the least.

I started this thread and quite lightheartedly tried to hijack the phrase ‘pant wetting’ so any concerns could be freely addressed without anyone trying to use it to belittle others, wasn’t quite the effective tactic I thought it might be!

I would also suggest there’s more worry over lack of options out wide than Zaha leaving. If we were to have someone other than Schlupp there starting the season, the loss of Zaha would barely feature in thoughts.

Also, generally speaking, I haven’t seen too much that would constitute ‘over-pessimism’ (pant wetting) on here, beyond typical/usual and natural concerns.

Edit: Just seen some not uncommon digs at Parish which I generally disagree with, always seems a bit OTT and unaligned with reality. Good win today and a start to the season which should at least settle some nerves. Important to enjoy the 3 points all as there’ll be plenty of weeks where we try to identify where the next lot is coming from!

COYP!!!!

After 12 years at this level should we not be trying to progress/strengthen ourselves just the tiniest bit rather than worrying about the teams who should be 'worse than us' ??

Indeed, and I think that when Roy mentioned a top ten finish as the target that is his definition also. I've said before that a top ten finish with 50 plus points on the board is realistic progress given the circumstances.

I don’t know if we watched the same game but I thought he was desperate. He is petrified when he has the ball at his feet and constantly caught out of position.
