Let's see what team he puts out vs Brentford. Schlupp again in midfield would switch me to Vieira Out!

He did tend to jog around like he was out for a sunday stroll. Really annoying playing. He needs to up his work rate. Especially when you see Doucoure and Ayew storming around all game.

He needs to start Lokongo.

Mateta was also pushing the pram around the park most of the game as well. The difference when Edouard came on was marked.

I think the problem is, it’s not going to get any better than it is now for us, understandably with our ground as it is and our lack of spending power compared to other teams. So it’s all getting a bit same old same old and a bit tedious now. Although I don’t want relegation for the obvious reasons, if it did happen, I’d be looking forward to next season because it would freshen it up after 10 years of basically survival, because they’d obviously be a massive turnover of players and playing different teams again.

I know it’s not good financially, but I don’t have to balance the books, I just go to watch the football, whoever we’re playing.

I remember the Championship days and being managed by the likes of Burley, Francis and Taylor in recent years. It wasnt fun at all, playing poor sides and struggling, if thats what fans yearn for, there is no hope.

That's what I keep thinking. Was I going to different games to everyone else? We were basically a mid-table Championship team for a while playing some absolute dross. I still remember that humiliating 3-0 defeat in the play-offs to Watford when we were played off the park. Even the promotion season we limped over the line.

I also remember our promotion years as far back as the 70’s, even from the 3rd division, also our near promotion years, it’s not all doom and gloom outside the premier league, football fans can still enjoy supporting their team. Besides it’s been pretty turgid at times in the premier league, it’s not the be all and end all.

good post. With our high wage bill and with 9 players out of contract this summer IMHO relegation would be a disaster.
For every Burnley, look at say Stoke (who have the Bet365 owners behind them) and Huddersfield.

I don't want to get relegated but if we have 9 players out of contract (the expensive deadwood often referred to) then that would lessen the financial hit of being relegated. It is the high wage paid players with no relegation clause in the contracts who no one wants to buy that are the serious financial risks.

Of the other high earners I guess one or two could be sold if necessary but the parachute payments might not make it a necessity.

And some, or all, may have the relegation clauses to reduce their salaries.

I recall us having a tricky spell under Roy that had many talking about the possibility of relegation a few seasons ago. Then we went on a run of decent results. It's almost as if the players woke up to the reality of their cushy number being threatened and started to perform. I think the same will happen this season.

I get what you’re saying and I remember those days only too well but maybe it would be nice to win more than our average 6 home games, see some of the young players get a chance and play most of our games at 3 o’clock on a Saturday.

God forbid that we get relegated.
Reality will really set in when the fixtures are announced and when there are empty seats at Selhurst Park.

Very true, and a small step towards safety tonight with the brilliant news that Everton have lost to an indifferent Liverpool.
Hoping that normal service is resumed at Everton(serial losers) and the so called new Manager bounce win against Arsenal was purely a fluke!!

Anyhoo.

The Everton result tonight means that when the thread started we were 8 points off the zone. Five games later and after a poor run we are seven points off.

Points on the board matter. Its not easy for those at the bottom to catch up. And there are six teams between us and the dreaded 3rd spot.

This weekend there are two 6 pointers and the others play top sides. The following weekend there are another two six pointers and only Everton have a team outside of the top teams. That villa game is a must win for them.

The fewer people in the stands in the championship, made a lot more noise than the full houses we get now.
