Cincinnati, Ohio native here who will be attending the match, sitting next to the Crystal Palace supporters section at Nippert Stadium. I have a few local suggestions (with links) for anyone flying across the pond. Keep in mind that Cincinnati's international airport is not in Ohio, but across the Ohio River in Kentucky. A local joke is that travelers going south from Ohio to Kentucky hand off their shoes to the barefooted hillbillies heading north from Kentucky to Ohio.

I cannot be held responsible if your taste buds find some of the foods a bit foreign.

1) Cincinnati chili: A specialty originally brought here by Macedonians and Greeks in the 1920s, Cincinnati chili has ingredients that include cinnamon, chocolate and cayenne. The best, in my humble opinion, is to be had at Skyline Chili. Be forewarned, our town serves its chili either on top of spaghetti or on hot dogs (both covered with mounds of cheddar, and mustard and onions if you like those too). [Link]

2) Cincinnati beer: Our city has a very German heritage, and you will probably see lots of people enjoying their beer. Annually, Cincinnati holds the world's largest Oktoberfest (outside of Munich's).

For pre-match beers, you could try Mecklenburg Gardens (a biergarten), which is popular with FC Cincinnati supporters. [Link]

Post-match, or for your next few days in town, some popular 'nightlife' spots to have a beer or three would be:

a) Mount Adams: The evening crowd in this beautiful, narrowly winding hillside/top neighborhood tends to be fraternity boys/sorority girls, and middle-aged upper class who want to mingle with them (I once saw Jerry Springer at Longworth's, when he lived in Cincinnati in the 80's, scoping out the 'lay of the land'). [Link]

b) The Banks district on the Ohio River: The crowd is a mixture of people attending Reds/Bengals games, as well as those just out for a night on the town. [Link]

c) Over-the-Rhine: The crowd leans toward the hipster side, but they don't have a monopoly on the district. [Link]

3) Graeter's Ice Cream - It will be fairly hot while you're here, so enjoy this sacred local dessert. [Link]

4) Eli's Barbeque - Best BBQ in the city, inexpensive, and cool indoor and outdoor seating options at the Riverside Drive location. [Link]

5) Disneyland...well, almost. We call our version Kings Island, and it comes complete with a replica Eiffel Tower. [Link]

6) Cincinnati Reds (Major League Baseball team) - The Reds have a series of home games that will coincide with the FC Cincinnati/Crystal Palace friendly. Tickets can be had for as little as twelve US dollars, which is slightly less than the cost of an average Premier League ticket... [Link]

7) Just ask. There is more here to do than many on the US coasts care to admit (they want the tourist dollar). And, the cost to do things here is about the lowest price you'll find in the USA. [Link]

Thanks for all of those suggestions.

We are working on prematch and events around the days before and after the match.

The gardens is an exciting possibility but we might not all be able to fit there we'll see what our numbers end up being. We are already close to 150!

We are also possibly doing a reds game friday night and a boat tour on saturday. All depending on the clubs events that surround the friendly!

We connected with a Palace expat thats been living in Cincy since 77 and works with the convention and visitors bureau who grew up in a convent in Crystal Palace and brother was a ball boy at selhurst and her mom. So getting a lot of connections with her!

Excited to enjoy Cincy in a whole other way than the late 90s and meet up with FCC supporters along the way!

New CPFC fan from Long Island, headed to Philly next week to see the game. I started watching the PL on NBC here this year and for whatever reason, I attached myself to Palace. Maybe the team colors (I'm a NY Rangers and NY Giants fan), who knows, but I'm looking forward to seeing them play.

I'm not new to the game, I played as a kid for years at a time where it wasn't, "cool," to play soccer here in the States. I was a goalie and wasn't bad, I played for my local travel team and up until high school. So I do have an appreciation of the game and consider myself a full fledged Palace supporter.

Still not over the FA Cup final....

Coming to Cincy and bringing the daughter with me. It'll be her first match that doesn't involve her dad yelling at a TV set.
