I mean this sincerely Swindy, without trying to sound cliched or patronising, but there are plenty who have tried the same thing and failed miserably. Leicester got relegated last season, for instance, and have been in a far better state than us including winning the league and Champions League football. That’s just one example.

I make you right, we should absolutely be looking to improve constantly, and the reason we have forums like this is to hypothesise as to how this should be done, it’s both fun and an outlet. Expecting it to happen with anything short being utter failure is an extreme that should not be indulged however.

For me, there’s a difference between demanding Champions League football and 10 world class signings with Chelsea-esque spending sprees every transfer window and saying ‘we need more to the squad/someone in x position/we could struggle if x, y or z’. The latter should be entirely acceptable with the former open to ridicule.

I do however reject the notion that Parish has overseen this still fantasy-like period of achievement, beyond that I ever imagined would occur, but is somehow an enemy of the club. Equally, I also believe that as fans we should not expect to exist in a state of absolute bliss and optimism, without ever opining on what we consider to be going wrong. There’s a middle ground there and should be explored sensibly.

I like reading/hearing both sides of the fence on that one and as previously stated, consistently switch between the two. I was worried about relegation before KO today and am now pondering the possibility of us retaining a place in the top 5 (neither of those being sincere statements). Ahhhhhh, Palace (or just football fandom in general)!

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

Our squad needed strengthening. Since then we have lost some talent and experience - we have added a decent squad player, perhaps starter and a player that's a gamble but still a long ways off.

We hired back a retired manager as we couldn't identify anyone to accept the role and join us. Parish has no money, he spends others... that's not really how it works..

We need a chairman that spends his money... and we need to keep up with this league... that's the price to pay.

Have you seen the likes of Everton and how much they spent over the years? Even got world class managers in ancelotti.

That's not what I said though is it? That's poor spending which many clubs are not immune to. Parish controlling the kitty of others is not a realistic way to run the club, hence the issues we have seen with the recent investors.

I think we have massively strengthened over our time in the Premier league. Go back and look at our team from season 13/14 and we don’t have to worry about relegation. If that were to happen we would literally have to have our whole first team on the treatment table. Sheffield United were made to look bad by our total superiority.

I’m pretty confident about this season, but we can’t tell much from yesterday. If we’d had Newcastle away we could have played just as well and lost 2-0. Far too early yet.

You have no evidence that Parish is controlling the kitty. I would suggest that the 3 Americans, that put in the most money have a big say.
Languishing in the middle of the Premier, is far more entertaining than languishing at the bottom of the Championship.

We have the major problem of no money which is why we have not bought no one in this season (yes I know we have but I mean in relation to the rest of the league). While there are others in the league that have similar funds or maybe even less we are safeish. For me while we have a reasonable squad and enough money to cover the major cracks we will do ok.
Going on to another and equally large problem is the up coming Main/Old stand refurbishment and this is bigger as stuff like steels may well hit the pockets of the directors much more than the needs of the squad. I am not a big fan of SP as he wasn't going to the ground during the SJ days, would I have done the same? . I hope the Main stand works well and I hope whoever is running the club in the near and the further future has the relative luck that SP has had and we continue to stay and don't run into the financial problems that we have had in recent years. Enjoying getting up later and not having someone who knows better than me (apart from the missus of course).

Textor himself said last week on social media that he can't see himself staying in such a situation where he isn't calling the shots.. if you want an official quote, how about this from the athletic..

'Ultimately, Parish has the final say and there can be a reluctance to sanction significant spending, but the pair have a good working relationship. Trust is the most important component and that appears to be there.'

and the Americans have been sniffing around other clubs...

and for the record - who said anything about 'languishing mid table'...
