Bamford scores goals but he wont be given the 90mins every week. wickham doesnt score many but puts himself about alot, same as murray. We need Austin not only for the goals but also to make Wickham take the next step up in his career and start to not only score goals but compete for the 9 position. Good post totally agree.

Therefore, I guarantee this website will go into meltdown when he signs for someone else, forgetting the fact we've done our business early and actually done pretty well, minus a centre back in this transfer window. I'd like Austin, but the post admin scars mean I'd be seriously concerned as to why we are buying him after also getting wickham. Players would have to move on. I highly doubt Austin wants to come here either. With QPR after Guediora (probably spelt wrong) a potential deal could have been struck all summer but hasn't been. Parish himself alluded to Austin not wanting to go to palace on talksport a few weeks ago. The sad thing is that I doubt we are after Austin after signing Wickham. Therefore, I guarantee this website will go into meltdown when he signs for someone else, forgetting the fact we've done our business early and actually done pretty well, minus a centre back in this transfer window.

I'd like Austin, but the post admin scars mean I'd be seriously concerned as to why we are buying him after also getting wickham. Players would have to move on.

I highly doubt Austin wants to come here either. With QPR after Guediora (probably spelt wrong) a potential deal could have been struck all summer but hasn't been. Parish himself alluded to Austin not wanting to go to palace on talksport a few weeks ago.

Agreed strongly. If we sign Austin then the Wickham deal is the very definition of frivolous.

Only way the Wickham deal seems like value at that point is if we can 100% move on Gayle for basically the same amount. At least then we've basically bought Austin and swapped the other two.

We could possibly do a swap deal with gayle,gayle was at Qpr last week
As a guest of the club.

would make sense to tempt Qpr with a swap and move other players on.

That kid is quick, like to get the ball deep and can actually play the number 10 role. If we were to get Austin, which I doubt seeing we got Wickham, then Murray will go. Laddo, I do agree with you (above). What I was comparing was not so much the two players in terms of individual skill sets as the roles they would need to fill at Palace. Wickham's role is target man more than goalscorer. The Bamford/Austin role is goalscorer. Yes, they are different sorts of players (something you explain very well) but my point (poorly explained, it seems) was that is the "shirt" that we expect the goals to come from, where Wickham/Murray's is the shirt we expect something other than "just goals" from. I think Wickham still has a role if Austin comes. Bamford is the one who's minutes I think will diminish. But I may be wrong. Sydenham by birth. Selhurst by the Grace of God.

Syd, I can't see Austin and Wickham together, they're too similar. But i agree about Austin being a goalscorer. I got the feeling after seeing Dwight handing his shirt to someone in the Holmesdale and his demeanour he's definitely on his way out I'd be gutted to see him go.
Muzza if the money is anywhere near 4m I'd be happy for him to be getting 1st team football somewhere else again gutting but if it means we make room for Austin I'd take that.

As many have said, this only makes sense if both Murray and Gayle move elsewhere this week, which other 'rumours' suggest is on the cards.
