If anyone looked like winning it was your.

Our goal was a surprise has to be said.

The finishing on both sides wasn't great.

Zaha naturally was dangerous and Gallagher impressed.

Shame for you Eze isn't fit..

We could all do with that striker to get goals!

True. He really should stop getting kicked in the head by his team mates and getting his eye socket busted in the process

Without doubt we have the two worst full backs in the league. They both cannot play the way PV wants them to higher up the pitch, both have technical issues whereas losing possession and then being out of position for a counter attack. Dont know whether Ferguson is good enough for that or if he ever will play for us. If we sign a winger i can see JRS going out on loan just to Jan perhaps to see how he does. A new striker is also a no brainer.

It’s difficult to be positive when yet again we go out in the first round and this time playing a stronger 11 against a Watford B team - Grrr! Viera has a difficult task taking on a side that needed practically the whole team replacing. We couldn’t even get a win with a strong 11 picked and that tells us what’s heading our way for a time to come. Can’t fathom how we haven’t brought in replacement right and left backs yet as that seems to be one of our main problems? Mitchell and Ward are good squad players but that’s it. By the time we get more players in and up to speed we will be rock bottom in my opinion? Going back to last night, it’s yet another season without a cup run. As an old geezer I want to see my team at Wembley and stay up in the premiership even if it is 4th from bottom. Let’s hope we are up and running by the time the FA cup comes around?

We were the better team. We created more but couldn't finish. It's an age old story for us. We also conceded the obligatory soft goal, also the same old story for us. Actually we played well for quite large parts of the game. Mateta wasn't bad but blatantly lacks composure in front of goal/can't finish. Blew some rust off anyway. We could score two or three another game playing the same, hopefully against West Ham. I hope Gallagher won't get fed up carrying our midfield.
I suspect Viera is not happy and suspect he's had a word with a couple of players. Let's see how we react against the squatters in our next game before we collectively piss our pants.

An opportunity missed to give the youngsters experience e.g. Rak Zaki, Hannah, Boateng, Banks and Street. Looks like Viera is copying Roy.

Not at all. It was clearly more important for Vieira to give his first team more time to get used to playing together with the new system. The players let him down because our front three couldn't hit the proverbial barn door.

Vieira is nothing like Hodgson.

Far from being the end of the world at this stage of the season. Vierra still moulding together a team with many new players with the results against Watford and every other Prem. Team far more important in the league than in Cup comps.

High possession rate and increased number of chances on goal suggests progress. The fact that we didn't score is no different to previous seasons and reinforces the need to focus upon quality of strike play.

Agreed!

I heard that he had the changing room door locked for an hour after the game. Either he wasn't pleased with the players or it's the other way round.

His demeanour in the post-match interview suggests the former. He clearly wasn't a happy bunny with the players' mentality when they got anywhere near the opposition box.

Agree. PV needs to work on his team and system. Which to be fairness looks to be working. Apart from the scoring bit.

Would be interested to hear the chat between PV and Parish this morning.

Sometimes you have to let things fail in order to be able to improve them.

PV's selection last night has only served to highlight the problems we have on the pitch.

To continue this season post transfer window with Mateta and Benteke as our only senior options up top will see us in deep trouble.

The clock is ticking....if the Board were in any doubt as to whether more players are needed, they surely have their answer now.

Having gone last night, although the result was disappointing, there were positives, the passing and approach play was much better. The 3 new signings are clearly improvements on what we had, Andersen for example certainly has an eye for a pass !
A difficulty in scoring goals is hardly a new phenomenon !!
Vieira would not have come to Palace without proper assurances that there would be significant funds available for investing in the team (his reputation is also at stake) and we assume that spending has not finished and that the striker situation is yet to be tackled (there has been a rumour of Mateta being released early from his loan).
Another typical Palace thing, which also doesn't help matters is that the new manager was appointed right on top of the start of pre-season so there has not been a great deal of time for the players to get accustomed to a different playing style.

It's gonna be a long hard season let's not pretend otherwise. This was always going to take time.. The blame lays squarely at the feet of the board who somehow thought that letting a squad deteriorate to a level of having 11 players out of contract was the best way to progress a club.

People have got to be patient... Hopefully we won't get cut off at the bottom of the table by the time things come together a bit more.

none of those players were worth keeping and were a significant financial drain. As is clear, and has been for a long time, our problem is our attacking/goalscoring and not much has changed or been lost there. We need a striker that can score at the top level. That coupled with Olise and Eze returning should sort things out somewhat
