I see they're (The BBC) holding a songs of praise at one of the migrant camp's churches. How ludicrous. The BBC point scoring again. Look, I feel sorry for some of these people but there is NO ROOM!!

What exactly is your issue with SOP being held there?

#confused

I suppose the Christian church has to try and recruit from somewhere since their numbers are virtually non existent.
Unfortunately we are importing some even dafter religious loons from abroad to make up for it.

Oh joy.

Edited by TheJudge (17 Aug 2015 12.48pm)

More people go to church than go to watch premier league football and the latter is really quite successful

Source ?

Gallop did a poll in 2012. About 12% go to church weekly. Rather more than go to Premiership games

Let's see it then. Are we talkin Christians here ?

Ah you mean white people don't you. About 1m people a week according to the CoE

No I don't.

You mean 1 million claim to go to church. That is less than 2% of the population. Not very many is it.

We should start introducing a timer for these discussions to see how long it is before someone brings up skin colour.

Its certainly down a lot. But not many compared to what? That's three times the Premier League attendance on any weekend and comfortable more than watch the top four divisions. Is it your view that "not many" people watch football?

Oh dear.
Premier league attendance is limited by availability and costs hundreds or even thousands of pounds a year.
Many prefer to watch on TV.

Do you really want to claim that Christianity is more popular than football in England ?

If you are going to use the word, 'watch' football....You have to include a lot more people than those who attend matches.....There's your Sky Sports and other subscriptions.

Though the whole argument does appear to be slightly ridiculous.

Also Church attendance continues to decline at a significant rate.....The CoE attendence goes down about seven to ten thousand a year.

We have enough arrogant, self righteous and rude religious loons here already.

Oh my, the absolute blissful and bountiful irony of this post.

1) SOP didn't go there to recruit, silly statement. The church exists to care for the needy, who are more needy than those in Calais (cue loads of wailing with inferred racism about 'looking after those at home')
2) The Christian church continues to grow worldwide, despite terrible persecution by other religions
3)The decline in church attendances in this country long ago stopped and is now increasing, driven by immigration , and also the growth of more modern Pentecostal churches such as Hillsong and Hope City
4)The arrogance, self righteousness and rudeness on these boards flows in spades from those opposed to religion and is met always by polite responses from those like myself, who do have faith.

Its quite laughable if it wasn't so sad.

You are aware that pride is a sin?

Of course you were....Your superior knowledge of the Bible and all that......You aren't arrogant at all are you?

You rude....never....Maybe those previous posts were from a different 'reborn'.

I think you need to read down the discussion.

Judge made the comment that the number of people going to church was virtually non existent. I used the Premier League and an example as few people would claim that the number of people going to a premiership match is non-existent when it is a third of the number going to church

That's want worries me. This vastly secular society doesn't want more religious nut jobs and delusionals causing trouble and indoctrinating the young and gullible.

I am strongly against the indoctrination of the vulnerable.

I could also argue that there are also people who would describe themselves as Christian but don't go to church but that is beside the point.

I was ridiculing the argument that Church attendance is "non-existent" as quoted by Judge when it is more than watch league football and I doubt that even Judge would claim that the people attending football is "non existant"

Whether we like it or don't like it, I don't see Christianity disappearing anytime soon.

I just hope that secularism/humanism continues to rise.
