The same squad made Arteta jump on Monday after the final whistle like Arsenal had won the CL so it's not all doom and gloom. Probably also a question of the day's form. Anyhow, some additional firepower and creativity upfront would be nice.

I am convinced the management know we need above all else a striker but finding that pot of gold at the end of the rainbow ain't easy

Greetings from across the pond. First time poster to the board. My wife and I wanted to find a sport and team that both could root for and after some research and discussion we landed on Crystal Palace. We couldn't see ourselves pulling for one of the big clubs and Palace just reminded me of my NHL team, the New York Islanders, scrappy team without a goal scorer. I was happy to learn this club has a die hard fan base and is a suburban team.

I am very much a novice to the sport and to the team itself, so I apologize for any seemingly dumb questions or incorrect assumptions.

Today was our second match we've taken in. Much better second half today than the one versus Arsenal, even with the opposing team playing with a full 11.

I thought Eze had a great game. The offense overall just seems to me like everyone is waiting for someone else to do something. Despite that, the team muscled out a draw today which given the poor play in the first half, I was quite satisfied.

Although its only 2 matches, I can already feel like I'm getting into being a Palace fan and I look forward each week to the matches. It's also a plus my wife and I get to start drinking at 9am US time for the matches.

Cheers everyone, I look forward to reading the message boards and learning more about our newly adopted team.

Ayew was at his hard working best again today - my MOTM. Frank organises Brentford very well, making them a tough team to play against so a point at their place was a fine outcome.

A lot of criticism of Ward on here and, OK he lacks pace and did make some errors, but he also made some good tackles to keep us in the game. Deserves more respect.

We're 10th in the table after 3 games. Happy with that.

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled.

1) Impressive effort in the 2nd half. It would have been easy merely to go through the motions.
2) Ayew is a marvel. He hardly ever scores, but oh how he gives us hope. He invests as much as MacArthur did, albeit with a vastly different style.
3) Ward can be serviceable, but today he had a terrible game. Is Richards healthy? He's better in the center, but he's got the pace and fitness that Wardie lacks...
4) Aren't strikers supposed to be fast? Mateta lopes and Edouard lumbers.
5) Why can't Mateta jump? Even skinny NBA players can elevate a couple of feet rather than a couple of inches.
6) Have Eduoard's ball skills diminished since he arrived? Surely Jes and some Academy players would do more than he does with the chances he gets.
7) I miss the excitement Wilf brought, but for all our flaws I like the flow and unpredictability of our current "attack." More and better interplay.

Welcome to the site PalaceYank (and your wife). A number of us are ancient Palace fans having supported the club for 50 years or more. We can be gloomy at times and expect the worst having seen the club go through two administrations and up and down between the leagues like a YO-YO at times.

We are good at moaning (what fans aren't) but we love our club and what it stands for.

As for your assessment - it looked pretty much on the ball to me. As for me I was happy to get a point at a club which lost just two games at home last season.

Good point today. Shocking 1st half and I was half ecstatic and half going off my nut that it took a CB to show the forwards what happens if you can be bothered to pass and move and make a run in behind the defence. Like everyone else has said, we are absolutely desperate for a striker with half a brain and who can control a football and I'd bin Edouard now and use Mateta, equally as useless but at least he puts himself about.
Comments on Ward are a bit harsh as he's been doing a great job for the last half of last season and up until today. Just had a shocker today but then so did Eze but the time has to come soon where we upgrade that position along with LB because Mitchell is far from Prem standard.

We don't need a keeper and an injured South American wonder-kid. A replacement for Wilf, a striker capable of scoring 10 goals a season and a proper right back.

My 14-year old son said at today's match that everyone we play will target Joel Ward as he is no longer up to it. You would think Roy, Ray, Dougie and Paddy could figure it out.

Just watching the super Seagulls. I think they have have sold one over-priced player too many. Nice to see them taking the big boys pants down though.

Just back from the game. I know we see games with our CPFC hat on but:
This is the third time I've seen Brentford and they are a well organised, functional team but nothing more, yet the plaudits they receive would indicate something far better.
Their players regularly went down complaining of being injured when tackled, thereby interrupting the flow of the game. Thomas Frank is compared to the messiah, but a bit like Eddie Howe, his team practices the dark arts very well.
I thought technically we were the better team, but as everyone has said, we need much more energy and invention up front.
