Berahino is better and younger than B eneteke and would be alot less on transfer fee and wages apparently we've inquired about him too that's what I've heard

This guy will give us the same issues as Gayle, too small to play our system.

The only way this guy is coming is if we play two up front.

Would have liked benteke here but, but somthing is not right, if he wanted to sign I think it would have been done by now, maybe we have pulled out and there is a cover up don't think we will ever know, we need a new striker so let's move on, we only want players that buy into CPFC like Tompkins & Townsend.

Good question, let me think

This could actually be a blessing in disguise.
£30m plus circa £130k per week is a massive outlay for one player- I would have loved to see him playing for Palace but this whole circus has indicated he's a bit of a bellend to be honest- we were willing to give Liverpool almost every penny back that they paid for him, he would have got a tidy signing on fee and we would have at least matched his wages
For me we should now be looking at bringing in two players (a number 10- Vasquez, the Pole at Ajax or ideally Sigurdsson) and a striker at around £15-£20m- Slimani, Bony or similar. That would be a total spend of £35-£40m for two player. If we spunked it all on Benteke that doesn't leave much for this number 10 that we clearly need to supply the strikers and make us less one-dimensional.
I think the likes of Wilf, Yala and Townsend will actually create more chances if they're not the only outlet AND they're getting quality balls in the channels from said number 10

Sakho and Babacar are no better than Wickham we need to improve not buy very similar players that are not much better than what we have already.

Sakho scored 5 goals and Babacar only scored 4 goals (in the Seria A!) That's as many as Benteke scored by himself 9 goals and he barley got a game last season.

I'm inclined to agree. We had this situation before with the bloated squad and lots of midfielders but none discerningly better than the others. To move the squad forward at some point we have to buy big.

My feelings

We had an offer accepted and started negotiations, benteke was happy to do this with a view a bigger club would come in, West Ham were interested but ultimately didn't want to pay the wages or transfer, benteke realised no one else is interested and really didn't want to play for little old palace so operation save face has clicked on and he's got his agent to say he was never interested, if he signs now he will look silly so I think is a dead deal ... Shame, but there might be a silver lining, it's increased our profile.

Thing is, with the new TV deal, I don't think £30m this year is the same as £30m last year.

If the same scenario last year happened now (IE, leaving a villa side that hadn't got relegated, after scoring loads of goals) I think he'd be more than £30m. Which means our offer is proportionately less than what Liverpool paid.

In my head that both makes sense, and no sense whatsoever

Batshuayi increased our profile. Missing Benteke as well just tells the next target a) big prospects don't want to play here and b), you're third choice

Yep. But the kind of player I want to come won't give a monkies about that and be hungry enough to prove us wrong. You'd like to hope that the level of professionalism would be such that anyone earning over £60k a week would be able to suck it up and get on with it. We shall see.
I think we should avoid Berahino at all costs, even if he was 6ft 4, his attitude is not what we need at the club

Ha! I see your point. The other thing we have to take in to account is how much more expensive it will be to buy abroad now- the pound is far weaker against the euro, post Brexit. £30m a month ago is now more like £26-£27m now.
