I think that Paul Hammond should be on the list of contenders. He was in goal when I used to go home and away, round about 73-75. I think that he left to go and play in America. Anyone else remember him?

I certainly remember Paul Hammond. He started out being a bit dodgy but over the years improved enormously and became fairly reliable keeper.

However, I do recall coming across a small news item on the inside pages of a national paper (can't remember which one) which reported on how a certain Crystal Palace goalkeeper by the name of Paul Hammond had been found rolling drunk in a gutter by the boys in blue.

Hammond was potentially a very good keeper but it's true he did have a drink problem. I saw him in the Brigstock on one occasion very much the worse for wear. Not long after he went off to the US but never made it there. A great shame, I wonder what happened to him, it would be good if he shaped himself up and made it in another field.

lo Selhurst silva felix, lo Selhurst cara nutrix, viget, vigeat, vigebit! Best team:- Jackson; Gilbert, Evans, Cannon, Sansom; Hughes, Kember, McNichol; Byrne, Holton, Wright.

Having been a regular since the early sixies, the two greats have to be Jacko & Nigel!
Unluckiest, Suckling, as after the 9 nil never the same.
One that few will remember, Tony Millington, good keeper and a full international. If had played more could have been up there.
Worst, Flinders, suffered as could not live up to expectations.
Overall probably the one position that has never really caused us problems.

I definitely remember Millington and yes he was a Welsh International. He was bought in to replace Glazier. Although Jackson was already at the club he had virtually no 1st team experience and I guess the then manager Dick Graham believed that an experienced pair of hands were needed. As it happened Jackson gradually edged Millington out and he went on his way. He had a goalkeeping brother didn't he - Grenville?

Palace really have not had 'bad keepers'even Paul Hammond turned his 'luck'around...Shame Tony Burns put on weight easily...was not Sucklings fault alone that we lost 0-9!!!!!

In my time supporting Palace

Martyn (all the way)
Jules
Nico Vaessen (Play off semi's and final heroics)

How come no-one's mentioned Kevin Miller?

I'd tell you a joke about Nigel Martyn but it would go right over your head!

A bit like the one about David Seaman.

Here's one for you...

Gary Towse.. He played in the Anglo-Italian Cup for Palace and in the wins in Bari and Milan..

Is now goalkeeper coach at Folkestone Invicta.

I spoke to him last Saturday, when on a rare visit "home", will post a pic, when I remember to bring the camera in to work!!

Also playing for Folkestone on say was Robbie Kember.

Another "one-off" keeper was Nick Chatterton. He replaced Tony Burns against Lincoln in the yeat we went up with Mansfield.

Yeah him ... he charged out 30 yards at Southend to gift them a goal!! We lost 5-1 or something like that?

Think he played for Taunton Town on our west country pre-season tour a few years back?

Thought his nickname was Windy Miller due to his flapping of arms whilst dealing with crosses?

David Fry-Shoestring!...Paul Barron,Terry Gennoe(not sure of spelling),Steve Hardwick are a few more that come to mind....Barron had one unbelieveable game at Spuds(White Hart Lane)when Burridge was dropped or maybe refused to play....showing my age and possibly sadness!
