Also noticeable, the lack of present day theatrics by the players. Hard tackling was something that was accepted as part of the game then. Shame it's gone! The crowd is outstanding, and especially with the penalty after 44 minutes it was clear when we came out after half-time the welcome would be pretty loud and not too friendly. Crystal Palace wanted to strike back, so that was all clear. This is a wonderful place to play football - Jurgen Klopp

Great memories - Jim Cannon's first game, Big Mal's first game and, as they said at the end, the first time Palace had beaten another London side at the top level in 31 attempts!
Also noticeable, the lack of present day theatrics by the players. Hard tackling was something that was accepted as part of the game then. Shame it's gone!

Er no - his debut was against Chelsea in March 1973 which we won 2-0 and he scored and got booked in the same game (I was there!). The match is on the Palace Big Match DVD -I'll check out which number he wore - frommemory number 5 - but I'll confirm later.

Supporting Crystal Palace since 19.45 on 29th August 1972 (approximately)!

In the 1976 FA Cup tie at Leeds he played number 5, Peter Wall played nr 2, Derek Jeffries played nr 4, Ian Evans player 6, Stuart Jump played nr 3, the rest of the team was Paul Hammond, Nicky Chatterton, Martin Hinshelwood, Alan Whittle, David Swindlehurst, Peter Taylor.
