Some of the best times for me being a Palace fan was when Dowie was in charge. The way he took charge of a team that wasn't looking far off relegation to a team in the Premier League was quality. He got the team playing with passion and the football was superb to watch. It was direct in a style that was good to watch and so effective. He was so unlucky not to keep us up and who knows what would've happened if he did.

And you most probably guessed I'm not the oldest Palace fan out there at 19.

Steve Coppell, Steve Coppell, Steve Coppell and Steve Coppell (does that cover all his stints?).

George Courtney, the World Cup referee, everyone is looking at him. When will he blow....?

Ernie Whalley.

He used to give me free tickets for away matches !

Being serious though, I think Bert Head is my favourite. Got us promoted to the top flight for the first time ever, and kept us there for three season before being replaced by Big Mal in the fourth - which saw us relegated.

Yep. The one and only Steve Coppell who sold his soul and went to Brighton.

I mentioned Bert Head and Steve Coppell in an earlier posting but may I be indulged and also give a big nod to Dick Graham. He was manager when I started supporting Palace in 1963-1964 season.

That season he got us promoted to Division 2 after we had spent years in the wilderness. Apart from Big Mal taking us back to Divison 3 for a shortish period in the 70s we have never looked back.

He was a tough no nonsense manager who brought respectability to what had been a backwater, albeit quite well-supported, London club.
