I know you will all hate this but the man who saved this club from financial ruin was Ron Noades. If he hadn't sold the Whitehorse end to Sainsburys way back when most of the players already mentioned would have been playing elsewhere.
ok then Jim Cannon and Dave Swindlehurst.
Standing by for flak

I'm going to say Mark Bright, partly because I am a younger fan (aged 32) and because he was my favourite player as a kid. But also because not only was he a great player he can also take credit for helping Wright to become a great player too.

That's not to overlook all the other legends of course, I'm just putting my stamp of approval on Brighty!

You are of course correct Kermit. Bubbs will no doubt give us the full run down

I guess there are differences between a legend and a hero. Although someone can be both.

I think there have been players and staff at the club who may not have ranked amongst the absolute best, but have reportedly continued to play for the club during financial problems and turned down moves to bigger clubs to see out their time with Palace. I mean, that makes the person a hero to me but legendary status probably requires different criteria.

Adding to that, everyone probably has different criteria and hence the term legend getting used rather a lot!

Arthur Waite (Without him, we'd probably still be League 2)
Peter Simpson (Record Goalscoring machine)
Danny Butterfield (LB Perfect Hatrick)
Ian Wright (Non-League to All star, a story even fans of other clubs know).
Jim Cannon (games)
Joe Jackson (Because everyone says so)
Julian Speroni (three times player of the year)
Andy Johnson (magic goalscorer, top english goalscorer in the premiership)
Clinton Morrison (one man goal machine post war top goal scorer).
Nigel Martyn (England Number 1 whilst at the club).
Geoff Thomas (Inspirational legend)
Dougie Freedman (Relegation avoidance, once as player and twice in management).
Coppell (Most successful manager - administration savior).
Ade Adf**kingbadbuy (worst signing).
Razor Deadduck (fattest signing).
Alan Pardew (Makeweight, basis of one legend)

But if we ever built a statue it should be to Arthur Waite

All time legend - Jim 'more games than Milton Bradley' Cannon.

Agree about Arthur Wait as long as we all learn how to spell his name. Without him, we'd be nowhere.

Peter Simpson, Terry Long, Johnny Byrne, John Jackson, Jim Cannon, Geoff Thomas, Ian Wright, Mark Bright, Clinton Morrison.

Zaha, Williams, Murray, Ambrose, Scannell.

I feel you have to look at legends in relation to Crystal Palace Football Club. Not football in general. Would sound a pretty dull club if we decided to stick at Steve Coppell. Think the names suggestted so far are all worthy. May have not been the longest serving player but the best I've ever seen in claret/red/blue is Atillio Lombardo. Now working wonders at Man City last I heard. Legend.
Now who remembers what I mean if I said "A sons of Aylott list" would be interesting?!!!

I know he's not a player, but I still think we should have a bronze statue of Malcolm Allison, donned with a fur coat, fedora and a cigar.

Fiona Richmond, must go down in our folklore history...in fact I bet she went down quite often.
