For all the games Joels played this year he has been above average in most, but i for one believe his best matches for us have been at right back, due to the obvious lack of cover in central midfield and the fact he had cover at right back in Mariappa he was moved into midfield because he is so good he can be used just about anywhere. Now though through our signings we have extra cover in the central midfield role in Ledley, so i would like to see Ward moved back to his original position where I believe he contributes that little bit more than anywhere else he has been playing for us.

Alright, that's enough Yank bashing. Just because we never lost an empire, oh sorry we never had one, doesn't mean we're all less passionate or knowledgable about football. Nor are we any less passionate about Palace. Let the guys making the big bucks (TP) decide where to best use the unique talents of JW. Leave the pub and get a life !

Love how bubble wrap tried to have a dig at the OP and got his facts all wrong didn't know wht a full back was and didn't know what position Dann played, shouldn't have been so rude and aggressive and wouldn't look like a mug

Insulting others is nothing new for bubblewrap as he has history

could Joel Ward be turned into a better midfielder than he is a RB? This is what happened to Gareth Bale. Personally I don't think so. I like him at RB and, whilst I think he could make a competent midfielder, in my opinion he has all of the attributes to make a potential international right back?

Let's clone him

Great thread, new guy posts..... Gets niggled by some supposed hardcore palace fan. Palace fan gets mugged right off, new guy responds quite rightly so. Palace fan crawls back under rock. Bubble wrap do you feel stupid...? Agree with original post by the way, I too think ward could grow as a midfielder . Not sure this would happen though.

The problem with keeping Ward in midfield is we don't have adequate replacements at right back for the remainder of the season. If we now pick our strongest 11 including the new signings he would play at full back ! Who knows in the summer if Hunt is capable long term or we sign a decent right back perhaps he can work on a few things and switch to midfield during pre season but for now let's play to our strengths !

It's great to have this kind of debate, as it proves we now have some strength in depth, within our squad.

But I have the solution, to the question. Play JW as a Quarter Back. They get have massive influence on the game.

Only problem I can see here is that he might get done for handball!!

It seems we're quite split on this one as Palace fans then. Well, good job the decisions lie with TP. He knows more than us about the lad, and will have him fighting tooth and nail wichever position he's asked to play.

Controversial? Maybe...
The way I see it, players the quality of Joel need to be involved with the nitty gritty of the game.

Admittedly its not his 'position', but we all know players like Gerrard, Bale, Ronaldo all made position changes during their careers.

Im not saying Joel is as good as those...
At least not yet.
But these are examples of players growing to fill roles, and Ward can do that too!

Yes he is as good as most, but he must play in his most effective position. Eonn Morgan comes in at 5 for the England cricket side, even tho' he is the best. But he knows he is better in a position not commensurate with the best batsmen
