Jules says he is happy with his form , settled here and wants to stay. With tha and also having Price on our books seems to make spending 3 million on henessey a bit strange. The only reason i can see for signing henessey is that Jules won't be offered a new contract.
I hope this isn't the case and that he stays as our number 1
what do you guys think?

I think the same, but it's what the boss thinks that matters, I doubt we would have spent £3m on an understudy, if indeed that amount was spent? A striker is what was needed in many peoples opinion, and that money should have gone there, but tony is the boss so we should find out in the next few weeks......could be interesting.

Jules is a legend,. that word gets banded about a lot but he deserves the title.

However Henessey was not bought for £3 million to sit on the bench, and as much as I love Jules, in the cold light of day he is an average premiership keeper and Hennessey has the physical tools to be a top keeper, plus he is highly rated by wolves fans I have spoken to.

I can see Jules leaving in the summer.

You could have just ended there. Pretty sure Dom Fifield confirmed it was between 1.5m-2m.

Just read his profile - he does get injured a lot so retaining Jules is a must.

Also - 'During the 2011–12 season, Hennessey was part of the Wolves defence that went a club record of 30 consecutive league games without a clean sheet. '

To be fair though, they might have struggled to do much better that season if they had played two keepers.Didn`t they only win 4 or 5 games that year?

Personally I think Jules is a better keeper and that Hennessey has been bought in as a number 2 and cover. Why change a successful keeper when your fighting a relegation battle. However, we cannot expect Speroni to have another season without a break or injury, and if we lost him, I doubt either of our reserve keepers would be up to the job.

3m, if it was that much, isn't a huge amount by Premier League standards, whats more significant is his wages.

Also having a decent back up will prove useful in terms of contract negotiations, and in keeping Jules focused on form (not that he's really ever not been good for us).

Dropping Jules for Hennesey would be a risk.

i really don't understand why we bought Hennessey and for the amount of money too.

Most of the transfers had logic e.g. centre back we are playing 2 over 30 year olds (who have been excellent) but Gabs is a little slow and not the tallest, and i assume Ledley was bought to take over the KG role. Similar Ince will provide us another option on the wing and is more of a goal threat.

But goalie?? If you said what other positions we are weak in well left back and centre forward would be my first choices.

Anyway, it's clear TP wants more competition and a taller option, that's fine.

Hennessey has not kicked a ball for wolves for over 2 years (i know he has been injured) and even though he has returned from a good loan spell he is still their no2. Also he will be on good money from his premier days. So i honestly though a small fee or even a free transfer would be more than enough to get wolves to release him.

Even if the £3m is with all add ons etc and the upfront payment is half that it's still a lot of money for a player who hasn't quite fulfilled his potential and is injury prone (remember Matt clarke from Bradford - another injury prone goalie we bought for 7 figures).

Then finally there's Jules. He is a fantastic servant for the club, not the most dominant at crosses, but what goalies are these days? I honestly do not think Hennessey is good enough to replace Jules this season.

Incidentally how much money are Palace playing on wage sto players who can't/don't play this season - Alexander, Garvan, Marange, Grandin, Wilbs - if each is on £5k a week that's well over 1m which seems a bit excessive to me.

I see it differently, Jules needed competition and now hes got it. We also needed substantial cover if Jules got injured for any reason. Imagine him out injured for 6 weeks. No disrespect to Price this isn't the championship. We need 2 quality keepers in the premiership. You cant play like we have to give us a chance on staying up and then throw it all away because you have no cover for your number 1 if he gets injured. The only way Jules wont be retained now is if we go down, because of the length of the Hennessey deal.

My concern is that if he is so good and what with Wolves having had a good two years in a downward spiral before getting better why on earth hasn't another club come in for him before now?

If Jules is dropped this Saturday it will be incredibly unfair and harsh.

Still TP isn't really playing our best midfielder Bannan and we are doing alright.

Just have to sit tight and hope everything works out.

Agree with this, as I've said before, slowly slowly
