Anti-Homophobia Campaign-Good on The Palace

So the campaign is to prevent something which there is no evidence is happening - isn't that just a tiny bit odd?
The one player who's put himself out there (so to speak) has reported it as a positive experience. I suspect there would be an amount of abuse from some, a mass "meh" from others, and it would be forgotten in a month. At the moment it just seems to be an attempt to change the attitudes that some people thing some other people might have - how the hell do you measure that? If I don't care about a players sexual preference in six months, is that a successful campaign or, more likely, that I don't care now?

But to address your point - re the one player. I would say the difference there is that in lower league football you don't have the anonymity that's on offer in the higher echelons. You don't even really get much banter or chanting or any kind at that level (except when AFC were doing the rounds). Try screaming at a man that he shags his sister when he's 10 paces and zero barriers and stewards away Your suspitions that it would be forgotten in a month I would disagree with. It would be remembered by opposition fans every week (there's a new batch every week after all) And as for the campaign, I see it that football is the only remaining place where homophobia is still visible. And many people don't like it. It's just raising awareness - I too am dubious on how effective it can be but I can't see any negatives.

Not if the gestapo (should that be gaystapo?) were out in force in the stands you wouldnt be.. How do you police that though and determine what is homophobic - obviously calling him a dirty faggot is going to get your collar felt, but wolf-whistling, when they get the ball or give the ref some abuse - a lot of players get that because of their characters and it's hard to prove there's any malice in it

Im not being funny why are gays getting all of this love and special treatment. Legalising Gay marriage, people in general accepting fruits exist, There taking the piss now they want even more lime light by getting into all this football lark. I suggest a campaign for those such as my self who are really offended by gays and certain ethic people who get everything done for them yet still play the victim in order to gain more and call anyone who disagrees with them a right wing thug. The idea that the percentage of gay males in the general populace is reflected in the likely number of secretly gay players is on dodgy ground at best - it's a testosterone fuelled sport, and there is likely to be a marked sway towards 'butch' participants - in the same way as 90% of the male population may be straight, but you wouldn't expect that figure to be reflected in the worlds of fashion, dance, ice skating, or ladies' hairdressing
Butchness or high levels of testosterone have nothing to do with sexuality. There are very many butch and testosterone-fuelled gay men and it's likely in football the ratio of gay to straight players is similar to the general population.

Maybe a bit of straight talking is needed to wrap up this rubbish.The campaign is without doubt the most unneccessary waste of time and money that football has ever come up with.It will achieve nothing for gay people but will merely soothe the troubled feeling of the bed wetting brigade.Absolute bollox!
