Does anyone remember the goal Andy Gray scored from near the corner flag. Can't remember who it was against, but Andy retrieved the ball that looked as if was going for a goal kick. I can't imagine what went through his loaf but he seemed to kind of 'centre' the ball having imparted lots of side on it. The goalie made a catch for it high over his head but the spin took it into the net. A crackng shot by Andy, but did he mean it like that?

Can't say I remember it. Can't find it on Youtube either.
But I would have trouble thinking it could match the 88th minute header in 1990. Best game I EVER watched!

I remember the goal that Sewell scored against Leeds when a miscued shot went high into the air and Sprake under NO pressure at all allowed it to slip out of his hands and into the 'Holmesdale' goal !

Probably the most amazing goal I've seen at Selhurst. God knows if he meant it though.

April 8th 1986 Palace 2 Portsmouth 1

Was an evening match and recall it raining heavily throughout that first half where Andy Gray scored both our goals in front of the Whitehorse where I was watching. His first goal is pictured below. As you say, the second goal was scored literally by the corner flag by the Old Stand side.

I remember that goal well. As soon as Sewell lobbed the ball towards Sprake i remember calling him a useless **** and then old butter fingers let it in. Magic!

Thanks for remembering Andy's goal. And reserecting Sewell's lob-goal. Leeds had everything in those days but never did it at Gelhurst. And Sprake was a great 'keeper in a great, but hard, team. One game against them Palace were 2-0 up at half-time through two goals from the cultured John Craven. Within seconds of the second half he was 'tackled' by Norman 'bites yer legs' Hunter, and was carried off. Leeds went on to draw 2-2. They killed the game off and Bremner admitted Leeds were unable to do anything else not to get beat. But Palace, even in the lower divisions, defeated Leeds regularly. The final insult for them was the 1-0 Palace win in the cup in 1976(?). Bremner admitted this sounded the death knell for their team and the rise of Palace. Oh, and I remember an Arsenal fan telling me he thought Shovel Sewell should play for England. But after his 'rocket', what could you expect!

I was at both those matches - At the home game Craven was a makeshift forward and played a blinder - Hunter admitted afterwards that he had to stop him getting a third, so ran his studs right up his shin. The away win in the Cup was thoroughly deserved - Swindlehurst header from a free kick. Got asked the time by a Leeds fan after the game and still got away unharmed!
