One point away in PL is always a good point, but my God we were terrible from midfield upwards. And yes, our captain gives away the ball far too easily. Please don't deny the facts anyone (and I love this club as any given holmsdaler)

I've said before a few months ago when Jedinak was looking tired to give him a rest so he could recharge the batteries and I was lambasted for it.

Yes, resting your captain would give the impression that the manger has no faith in him but IMO we have to be realistic.
Do we keep playing him again teams which realistically we might not get points off meaning that he will be tired for the big 6 pointers in which we can get points?!

I'm not having a go at him but maybe giving him a rest would also send the message out that nobody position is guaranteed in the team thus making them fight for their position.

Thoughts?

I've been stewing on this all weekend and it's time to face facts. We're going down. And we're going down bottom of the pile unless something changes.

What were the tactics for Saturday ? Bearing in mind we were playing a team in the bottom three with an awful home record (albeit better than ours away !). Surely this was a game where 3 points were there for the taking. I guess anyone can argue that 1 point is a means to an end but the simple truth is that if we don't score we're not going to get a point every time.Bannan not even on the bench ? Is he injured or is he sh*gging TP's daughter ?

Also :

Jedders : WTF is going on with him ? What is the point of having a 'ball winning' midfielder if he just gives it straight back to them to have another go ? The guy cannot pass for toffee whether it be 30 yards or three. It's got to be the worst passing performance I've seen in a Palace shirt since the days of Neil Emblen (yes, THAT bad !). I'm sorry but if by some miracle we stay up TP will be offloading him. You simply cannot have a player who gives the ball away so consistently.

Yannick : All bluster and pace but flatters to deceive and is quite frankly a liability when he get near their 18 yard box and is coming across to me as all mouth and trousers. To be fair, tackles back very well and puts in a proper shift.

KG : Have defended him for ages but I'm afraid after Saturday he's worn me down. Not good enough, and I was saying that before he blasted the ball wide from 2 yards out near the end.

Positives :

Jules : Outstanding as usual. two great saves (one was offside, but he wasn't to know that).

Defence. Outstanding also, especially as both full backs booked in the first 15 which could have made for a long afternoon if one of them had picked up another yellow. They must get well p*ssed off that they're doing their but but we can't create anything up the other end.

Answers ? No idea, but we have to treat each game differently surely. If it had been Anfield, fair enough, but we need to be more of a threat, and we'll need to be also at Cardiff, West Ham and Fulham or our season is just going to fade away.

You are in my heart Palace and I love you deeply. Always have, always will but jesus christ you make me sooo angry sometimes !.

Rant over.

Oh great! Yet another bollox thread that regurgitates exactly the same cr@p as all the other cr@p threads, well done.

Mods, any chance of merging this with other twenty million treads with the same content?

So no valid points then. Haven't read any other posts..wanted to have my ten pennysworth first. Last I'll say on the matter is I think we can do better and hate to see us play like that in a game we could have won, cos we're running out of games and still need 3 wins IMO.

Thank you and goodnight.

It was pretty ugly. However, our goal is to finish in 17th place with one more point than the team in 18th. So we took a step in the right direction. I think you have to realise that the sole mission from here on in is to avoid the relegation zone and every week we are not in 18th place or lower is a time to be happy. Next season is the time to worry about points for artistic merit. Not now.

With that said:

The tactics were spot on. We got on a point and prevented a direct opponent from getting three (at home). And we did it by sticking to a system the players are now familiar with. Not pretty, but no complaints. But I do totally agree with you about Bannan. He could fit into the tactics and his creativity would help.

Jedinak. I agree with you. What you are now seeing is why he wasn't picked up by a top team before he came to Palace. In one dimension, his game is brilliant. But that is not enough to play at the very top. And in other dimensions, like passing, his game is rank poor.

Don't agree with you about Yannick, but sort of do about KG. Not really a Premiership player. To me, the Jedi-KG axis is why we've scored so few goals this season despite being defensively robust; there is no fulcrum of creativity from which to launch attacks. I would have Ledley and Bannan in there myself.

Defence: easily Mariappa's best game for Palace.

Mate, we are one of 3 promoted teams - we weren't even convincingly promoted - we were the 6th best team in the league and were a game away from not even making 6th.

Sunderland, although having a bad season, are an established, premiership team!

Our line up in terms of experience is probably the least and our squad overall was a mess due to Holloway. Things could have been so much different had we started the season in a more 'experienced' manner, but hey, it's done...

I have beef with a lot of things, but it isn't over until the whistle goes at fulham.

This season has been a random one, look at United, Liverpool, the way cardiff have suffered with the board - west ham were poor, we were poor, sunderlad were poor, norwich look in trouble. We just need to ignore the what ifs and treat each game as a new one.

Have to agree with the OP.

The overall picture is to stay up, but Sunderland had to be one of our targets for 3 points as realistically we are not going to pick up too many other points until the end of the season.

By not attempting to get 3 points against a very poor Sunderland team, it means that we will most probably have to get 3 points against more difficult opposition to give ourselves a chance of staying up.

Many have defended the way we played saying that we are not as established as Sunderland, and we do not have such good players. I disagree with this and believe that our players should have been instilled with confidence and a game plan to attack Sunderland.

Instead we just sat back and let a terrible team come on to us.

I really don't think Pulis even contemplated any attacking, as the players had no idea what to do when they got over the half way line.

A point gained but 2 lost in my opinion.

UP THE PALACE!

Was a terrible game to watch, especially after going all that way. But the tactics worked almost to perfection. Stop them scoring, tire them out, then pounce for a last-minute winner. As I said, almost perfect!

I read the first couple of sentences and got bored. We are not necessarily going down. We might do but we are in a far better position than before TP came in.
People that think we have a god given right to win any game in this division know nothing of football. Our resources are the smallest in the division. We should be celebrating every single point earned as it is a point closer to our goal, survival and another £60m and the chance to strengthen our position in this division further like West Brom, Swansea, Southampton have done. We're punching above our weight with players that are learning as they go, many of which are tired now the adrenalin of playing in the Prem has worn off. Cut em some slack and get behind the team. Call yourself a supporter of the team? That is not supporting..

Bubble,

You may as well stew on it until the end of next season, IF, we stay up, £60m for staying up is hardly going to buy us a team to keep us up with comfort, let alone compete with the top six.

I agree Jedi has had a couple of bad games, but he never could pass. Just tired maybe, through carrying the team???? You can't fault his break up play.

Bolasie is still developing. His skill is outstanding. Yet to find his finishing form.

KG I'm inclined to agree.

However, if you think that they are the only improvements we need, we should be mid table. We are not, as we all see.

I don't think that we can improve very much with a mere £6om. That only buys one quality player when you factor in wages for the season.

So... either support what we have or stop whingeing.

Rant ove.......
